Hey all, I am new here as you can see by my post count. Long time ground camper and soon to be a hanger! I am trying to figure out my setup. What length would you suggest for a ccf pad? 3/4 length or full length?

I recommend and use the waffle pattern blue pad from Walmart as is it 24" (15 oz and about $13) wide vrs 20" wide for the smooth blue one. As to length, cut to the length you need. I leave mine as is.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Reflectix all the way, molds to your body. Used some this past weekend on a hang combined with my Yeti UQ and I was extremely impressed. I tried laying on CCF, and my insulated air core to see the difference...the reflectix was ALOT more comfortable in my opinion. YMMV

By all means go with the blue junk if you are hellbent on an uq in the future and don't want to spend much. However anticipate either cutting it to ribbons in the future or leaving it in a junk pile to loan to others in the future. I have a bunch of good pads but I also still breave the earth quite a bit. A good middle ground is the zlite. Its way less combersome than the blue things and warmer too. It packs up and puts away easy its durable and takes allot of abuse and later on when you get an underquilt you will find allot more use for a zlite than for other pads, inflatable or closed sell. Also get ready for cold shoulders no matter what pad you use.
Boy I can spell can't I?
I used this one to start out with:
Alps Mountaineering CCF Pad
It's more comfortable than the wally world pad, because it's more flexible. They use a softer closed cell foam, and it's more "grippy" on the hammock fabric. It's 1/2" thick, so it's definitely warm, and at $16.99 shipped (if you have a Prime account) the price is good when you consider the benefits over the Wal-Mart pad. However, the wal-mart pad is cheap, and you won't feel bad about cutting it up for other projects if you move on to a different kind of insulation, so ultimately, your choice.
With that said, I got WAY too hot with it in anything above 40, but I'm a hot sleeper. Most people use them around 60 or below.

I am in need of a good pad. I was pretty much sold on Thermarest until I ran across this thread and saw the reflectix, has anyone else tried this stuff recently?
Anyone used surplus GI pads?
Has anyone tried the ENO HotSpot Hammock Sleeping Pad Wings looks a lot like the SPE it is $29.99 at REI I've also used the fold out refactor you put in your vehicle window to keep sun out works great when its not to cool out to keep the chill away.
