    Double up hammock?

I have 2 parachute hammocks, both are the same company, etc just diff colours. My question/thought was to hang both from the same suspension and then lay a sleeping bag or other such insulator between the 2 hammocks.
    Would this work?

What kind of sleeping bag, down or synthetic? Regardless, you will compress the bag and lose insulating properties...

I've done this with a pad and works like a double layer hammock. It should work if the bottom is just loose enough to not compress the sleeping bag. Can be alot of fiddling involved.

How about sliding a pad in between, that should give you good insulation and the pad shouldn't slide around as much being on the bottom hammock. Just a thought.

I would hang the under hammock with shock cord. Since it carries no load it would keep whatever insulation you throw between the two hammocks snugged up against you with out compressing the insulation flat.

I do somthing very simular with a poncho liner, I sinch the ends and suspend it under my hammock. I put my clothes in the "underhammock" and not only dose it provide extra insulation, but my clothes are warm in the in the morning. This plus a zero degree bag kept me warm enough to vent a few times down into the low 20s

I would think it would work okay, just suspend the lower hammock from some shockcord so it wouldn't overly compress the insulation.

I have a couple of GT UL's, might have to play around with this in the basement testing grounds over the weekend.

    single,double

I use a setup like this for cold weather. I hang a doublenest about 4/5 inches lower on each side below a singlenest. They are both attached to the same biner, but the double has paracord extension loops on each end so it doesn't compress the extra, cheap sleeping bag I put between the two. I just leave it zipped up, and then use my actual bag as a blanket on top. Not light or compact by any means, but it gets the job done down to about 20 with two walmart equivalent 40deg bags. (I do sleep hot)

the issue with that is the pad, and probably whatever insulation you have under you that isnt secured somehow will shift to the middle. so if youre laying diagonally (as all good hammockers should be) the insulation would be straight not offering much help.

for the trouble, why not make something like a PLUQ? im an idiot and made one. Gave it to CaptSmiley's boy.

I'm rigged up in my man cave with a double rig. top part is a ultra lite and the bottom is a Wally-world DIY. I put a piece of Reflectix radiant barrier in between the two.
No cold butt or shoulders. This seems to work pretty well.
