I may try my hand at a down hat with the remaining down. I've made fleece hats already, and they aren't all that complex, so I'm figuring that if I make two ripstop hats, one larger than the other, sew a smallish baffle or two between them, stuff it, seam it, and line it with fleece, it will keep me toasty. It may not be pretty, but if it's functional, I'll be happy.

I may even add some ear flaps, so I can look even more ridiculous.

you do know quality 800 fill down from a vendor is only $6.50 an oz
and the blanket your getting from amazon is $144 ... why not use that money to get good quality down
your not going to know how much feathers are in that blanket till you get it and cut it open cause i will bet there are feathers in it
    just something to think about
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

I'm actually getting just the pillow, at $65. I have an amazon gift card, which is the main reason I'm going this route, in addition to the fact that this will be my first major project.

I would love to be able to purchase down from one of the vendors here (I got my fabric from diygearsupply), but even at $6.50/ oz, I'm looking at about $100+ for just the down. Effectively, I'm paying about $40 for all of the materials, albiet lesser quality down.

Once my skills have improved, I can justify the good stuff to the "powers that be" if you catch my drift.

I have had a rough time finding down in stock for anything less than $8.50/oz. But I.m notorious for bad navagating and horrible timing.

Wilderness Logics seems to always have it in stock at about $6.50/oz.

For the record, I received the pillow, and cut into it tonight. It had 8oz. of beautiful, feather-free down...and 20 oz of friggin' feathers in an inner core pillow

Nowhere in the description of the item does it mention "down/ feather" filling. The description reads as if it is 28 oz of pure 750FP down.

Now I'm in a real pickle, because I need about 11 more oz of down before next Wednesday, at the latest, to finish my quilt before the Ohio hang. I guess "buyer beware" and "you get what you pay for" still holds true...I paid about $8.00/oz for 750 FP.

i would definitely get ahold of where you bought it from and tell them about it and maybe even email them some pics and ask for your money back, the descriptions says "28oz of goose down" so they're misrepresenting the product

I'm already moving forward with that. Unfortunately, because I shredded the pillow, I don't believe they will send my money back, nor would I expect them to.

I will see what they come back with...in the meantime, I'm trying to get ahold of HammockGear to see if they have any down in stock, as I need to finish this thing. I've left a few messages over the past few weeks, plus an email. I know they are pretty consistently swamped making people's quilts. I'd even drive down there to save shipping time (they're less than two hours from me).
