    Doubling make sense. It would be nice to not have to try to eek out the last little bit of the yarn needle to pull through. And the videos of the guitar string make it seem like a very smooth process.

    Something like this. Just slide the amsteel in between the two strings, and then slide it down into the smooth doubled end. The solder helps keep the two strings sections together so they don't loosen and release your cordage as you're pulling and tugging.

    A softer wire (like florist's wire) can be twisted to make the eye hold well...

    Yep that looks alot simpler. My guitar string didn't want to hold the twists very well.

    I don't have/use a guitar string, I use a steel fishing leader. I double it over, then pinch the fold with pliers to create a tight fold. I still, every once in a while, have the line pull out. I have forgotten to taper, and it makes it a real pain to pull through. Make sure that you have enough of a taper. With a short taper, I have had problems with it slipping out of the fid. I find that zing-it/lash-it are the hardest for me to work with. I have made whoopies with mason line, and it was easier.
