I probably like to hike out of my backdoor and into my bird everynight the best.

I hike in the wooded mountains around my house every day. I usually take a hammock along and often set it up in a new place to learn more about hammock hanging. I get in the hammock and within a few minutes, I'm bored. So I get up, take the hammock down and hike some more--sometimes I set up the hammock again in a different place.

So, for me, it's the hiking. Being in camp is a little boring--just cooking, eating, staring at the fire...When I backpack, I make dinner on the trail, hike til almost dark, set up camp and go right to sleep.

i gotta go with the hiking.
for me, the hammock is nothing more than one of the tools you carry along with you on a journey.

i've been to a few small 'hangs', they're fun to be sure, and have made a handful of new, and very good friends.

but when i throw the pack on it's time to hike until dark or dark thirty,
    set up,
    build an inferno,
    cook,
    sleep,
get up and do it all over again, til' you have to stop and go back to work.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is kind of odd that this hobby we all have in common that brings us all together on this forum... revolves around sleeping.

For me, it's about getting away from people, and into the woods. I've done many, many miles in all kinds of terrain...for me, hiking can be enjoyable, but it's usually about me travelling from point A to point B.

I love setting up camp away from anyone...or with my sons and a few friends. Relaxing in the woods, maybe do a bit of fishing, a bit of reading, grabbing a nap...with no pressure or expectations.

I might use the time to hone a few skills that have gotten rusty, like orienteering, fire-making, trap-setting, etc... but the real enjoyment for me is relaxing in the woods where it's quiet and peaceful.

Hiking takes me to where I can find that peace and quiet...camping there let's me savor it.

I do both but if I'm hiking I like to have a scenic goal to accomplish otherwise I like to hang.

One leads to the other... It's all about being in the great outdoors! Hanging is just the most comfortable way to be in camp.
Don't get me wrong.. I love my hammock.. but I love the trail and getting to it.
I will geek out in the hammock in my backyard, but it's nothing like hitting the trail and even if its not a lot of miles, setting up and hanging is bliss in the woods.
So.. I am going with equally important to me.

My hiking/hanging style is in the minority. Maybe it's an age thing.
Most of my hikes these days are based around a super hanging spot usually with a view to die for.
I guess I'm a bit of a gear junkie cause I can spend hours doing camp chores, totally loving every minute.
Once my camp is set I'll do a bit of exploring from that base.

It's probably not for everyone but it's what I enjoy these days.
