    New OES Tarp for HH???

    Just Jeff -
I was about to pull the trigger on a JRB, but I noticed this morning that OES (Mac Cat) has a new tarp for HH hammocks. It looks about the same size as a JRB, but at a lower price point. It must have been a one-off offered on eBay that you quickly scored. When you get it, could you post a quick evaluation re: size, features, etc.?? Thanks.

FishBone - The couple of tarps I made were me angry at myself for running out of fabric without reordering, and I had a few 'just-too-short-for-a-MacCat' pieces left, so I in essence made a replacement for the stock HH tarp, added a few inches to the length and width, gave it real tieouts and perimeter taping, and put them on eBay for the same price point Tom Hennessy offers his replacement tarps for. Think of it as a specialized hammock version (aka only 4 corner tieouts) of a 5' x 8' silnylon tarp. I don't plan on purposely making anymore, but if the fabric on the end of the bolt allows, then they are a nice thing to make as a quick alternative to my MacCat tarps.

    Brian,

If you don't plan on selling these tarps would it be to much to ask to get the dimensions and directions for making this tarp. That weird asym shape gives me fits. I have a scrap peice of silnylon that would probably be large enough to make one of them. If you don't want to give up the info I understand. I just thought I would ask.

This would be a great Ultralight tarp with good coverage.

I was thinking about ordering one from you, but it looks like they didn't last to long. Does the tarp attach the same way the stock HH tarp does (the hooks on the Spectra line).

Sure - unfortunately I'm not spending much time on hammock right now as we settle into the new place/job, but I'll put it up when I get a chance.

For DIYers, just lay your stock tarp down on a piece of sil, then trace it with a margin of several inches.

Yeah, Jeff has it right. Given the extra dimensions, you can simply rig up a 5' x 8' tarp across the diagonal, no weird dimensional cutting. Only problem is that most tarps (Equinox, ID, etc) aren't made to take these kind of continual stresses night after not. The tarp has D-rings on the tieouts (as with all of my tarps), so yes, it clips right into the clips on the hammock. Other than that, I would prefer to keep some of my construction methods to myself, sorry.
