    Creature feature, Qld, Australia.

Just for something different... mainly pics of some creatures that featured on a walk yesterday in Main Ranges, Qld, Australia.

The walk......Cascade & Ridge circuit combined.

    Info Board with froggy styling

Not real happy being in the hand of a large predator...

A beautiful unknown serpent sunning itself on the track.

    Reaching for the sky...Hoop pine.

    As the image says....Cascade falls

Hidden within the foliage....one more step & I would have trodden on this.....a poisonous Red Bellied Black snake.

    There were leeches of course...

    ....and ticks

Quiet Manna Gum camp ground beside Dalrymple creek.

    and lastly the aaaaahhhhhh factor

    Happy New Year
    from Australia !!

Cheers kobold.......that leechy looking thing before the spidery, ticky looking thing is.......
...a very sneaky blood sucking Leech.

You'll run into lots of these sooner or later.

I love Main Range except for the leeches. The place is full of them!

Great pics once again. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks MedicineMan, seemed to be raining snakes that day....
as to being a tiger snake....possible....the location was at its very northern limit
    of its distribution.

Thanks Rikall, probably the last trip for a while....

Nice pics. The idea of walking somewhere where i could step on something that could potentially kill me gives me pause. I know you probably don't see them that often,,,sorta like bears in my area. Lovely looking country you got there.

It is a gift when you hangers from far away give us a glimpse into places we will probably never get to tromp in.
We've got serpents in our area...ones that can do damage and when hiking I never give them much thought. We spooked wild hogs in the Smokies couple of weeks ago, that gave me pause and increased heart rate-more so then if it had been a bear (but we only have little black bears here and not the GRIZ mbiraman has). But the thought of the kinds of serpent you guys have in Oz freeks me out....get bit and 10 seconds later you are dead! At least here you've got hours to days to make it (or not) but the chances are far greater; and our some of our serpents actually try to tell you 'hey don't step on me!' with a rattle. I don't think Tigers or Browns have rattles
Once in Kolob Canyon I heard a rattle for the first time-I FROZE in place, couldn't see him right off...so scanned the ground good before moving Soon enough spotted him crossing the trail 8 feet in front of me and I appreciated him warning me
