Whats a good tarp for around 30 to 40 dollars?

Looking for a good tarp in that price range if possible so im reaching out to the guys who know!, it doesnt have to be super light but I dont want anything huge either. I have a no seum hammock and live in the pacific north west where the rain likes to come from the sides instead of up above I dont want a overly big tarp but something that will do its job and keep me dry.

Also if there is anyone who can make one for me that is on the forum in this price range (long shot I know) or has an old one that doesnt leak and they dont use a PM would be appretiated. Again I am gonna be in the 30 to 40 dollar range so please keep that in mind. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Not much for lightweight in that price range, but keep an eye out for Gear Guide 9x9 or 12x12. Sometimes you can find them on sportsmansguide.com or ebay.

Wow, that's a toughie. Your price range is gonna limit your choices to trolling for specials. I got a couple of 10x10 Funky Forest Tarps for $35 each a few months back, but you gotta be patient to find deals like that. The mythical Guide Gear tarp seems to become available in March each year for a limited time, but they go quick.

Your best bet for a short-term solution may be DIY. I've considered making a Tyvek tarp, but http://www.diygearsupply.com has Silnylon 2nds for $3.25 a yard (in a garish red) or $5.50 in more manly colors. It would still be hard to meet your price point, though.

You might be relegated to Walmart or Home Depot cheap blue tarp till you can save some money. Whatever you do, don't try to use the grommets as tie-outs -been there, done that. My ten-dollar Home Depot tarp lasted ten minutes in a moderate breeze.

Chinook 9.5 x 12 can be found for around $40. Kelty Noah's are around $55. Good tarps all but cheap = Heavy.

Don't know anything about them, but here's a Chinook at $33.

You could always try posting in the Want to Buy section. I'm sure there are some gear junkies with 8 tarps in their closet.

Nope. Those don't exist. Nothing to see here. Move along...

I can swear by the Chinook I had.. the 9.5x12 would have been much more manageable than the condo I had too. Big one was around 2.5 lbs and packed up about the size of a Trail Pro. Hard to find too, if you find one in stock you should pounce.

Campmor has coated nylon tarps. I used a 9x9 one for a couple of years and never got wet

    9 x9 coated nylon 23oz $34.99
    10 x 10 coated nylon 32oz $40.99
If you like rectangular then 10 x 12 coated nylon 37oz for $42.99

This is what the 9x9 looks like with a SkeeterBeeter Pro under it

Hennessy sells a couple of their minimalist tarps for that price range. Note that these are minimalist tarps, though. They'll keep you dry in a straight-down shower, but don't offer much protection from splashback or driving rain.

    It's a thought...
