Ho do you sew tree huggers

I have found some 3/8" polyester webbing that has a 1500lbs limit. I want to use it for some tree huggers but I will have to sew the loops at the ends.

Does anyone have a certain thread they like to use for this?

What pattern or design will work the best?

How long should the stitching be on the webbing? Will 1" be sufficient?

I use polyester thread for sewing outdoor furniture. http://www.chaircarepatio.com/c-465-...ategoryID=465&

I sew a box with an "X" through it, and then double it. 1" should be fine.

3/8" is pretty thin stuff, really not much better than just wrapping some cordage around the tree.

As far as sewing them, bartacks seem to be the norm. I've built 4 sets and always used 5 or 6 bar tacks the width of the webbing (minus 1/8" or so for the edges).

Mine are like the yellow strap shown here:

I'm in agreement with both of the above - either bar tacks, or box and X pattern should work.

I agree that a wider strap would better serve the purpose of tree protection.

Here is a frequently referred to test of a variety of stitch patterns... http://www.caves.org/section/vertical/nhback/NH03.pdf.

Narrowest strap I've ever gone with is 1".
