I'm glad this discussion came up.

I find my 9 foot DIY hammock to be very comfortable, but lately I've been thinking something along the lines of ...
"Hey, if a 9 foot hammock is this comfortable, I wonder how awesome a 10 foot hammock would be."

    Peace,
    David

I've been in several size hammocks and the one I always fall back in is just my plain whipped end 11' hammock... All the others are comfy too, but I'm 6'1 and the 11' is my comfort zone.

One advantage to being short. I'm only 5'6"...my only hammock is a HH Explorer Deluxe. Probably as big as I'll ever personally need.

I went for a larger tarp too (HH Hex), but that was my personal choice, not really influenced so much by what others are doing. Just had spent enough time outdoors to know I hate getting wet, and like having more options available if the rain is coming down.

In my case, weight hasn't really been much of a concern, given that I was carrying all military gear prior to this summer. Weight has automatically shed as I've upgraded my gear to this decade.

I think the optimum for me is a 10' hammock body with a 100" structural ridgeline, and whipped ends. At least today...all rights reserved to change my mind next month or tomorrow. Maybe even today!

Since I'm primarily a motorcycle camper, I am gram unconscious. Size matters, but a foot or two of nylon doesn't take much room.

At 6'1 and 180#, I really like a longer hammock, even if I don't require it. Wider too if possible. Mine range from 9'-11'6"

Get tired enough and you'll fall asleep in about anything.

If I am hiking in I pay more attention to size and weight of course...

My current DIY is 9.5' long and 4.5' wide. I see no reason to go to a bigger hammock. I am always super comfortable. At 5'7", this works well for me and gives me a pretty light hammock to boot. I've not tried a 9' hammock, but who knows, it'd shave a few grams from my setup.

P.S. My MacCat Standard is huge. I do party under it. I've been looking at the HG 4 Season Cuben tarp to cut the weight in half, but that is probabbly too much tarp. I wonder if they could make a smaller version with doors.
    That would weigh even less.
