    Hello from Georgia's lake country!

    Hey there everyone!

Coming at you from beautiful Lake Oconee in Georgia. (Though I tend to find myself in many different places... A lot of Texas lately.) I've been lurking here quite a while and would like to say thank you for all the wonderful information that is posted here while giving you all the customary "**** you hammock forums!" for making me realize that man was not meant to sleep on the ground! (And, by extension, costing me a fair chunk of change... At least I needed to replace my ground sleep system anyway... As I tell myself that over and over and over...)

While I'm not necessarily "new" to the whole hammocking thing, I am new to it being my full time sleep system. I used to work 4-5 months a year in the jungles of Belize and down there the only option you have is a hammock. I now have a wonderful 1.7 double WBBB on order (or will once I stop typing all of this!) and I am very excited to finally get out and hang!

    First of all, welcome.

Second, it sounds as if you have more hammock hours logged than many of us (certainly more than me). Belize in a hammock, for months. How did that go?

Thank you everyone for the wonderful welcome!

To be fair, it wasn't every night in a hammock. I ran ground based archaeological reconnaissance searching for new Mayan sites in the jungles since in many areas they are impossible to detect from the air. We would generally only be out 3-7 days at a time before going back to resupply/begin a new route. So just about 1/2 the time in a hammock I would say. Unfortunately we were stuck with the terrible British surplus jungle hammocks... But it was better than the alternative... Sleeping on the ground is very ill advised. There is a reason this part of the world gave us our wonderful hammocks!
