I didn't rip, but I wasn't confident enough with it to use it in the field. Now that you have me thinking about it, I need to return to that project.

How much surface area did you spread the connection over?

I'm planning to do something like this with cuben fiber, but not exactly like you did.

We place ours just under halfway, 1.4m from the foot (3m hammock body) I agree with the stress mentioned above but if you reinforce 10+ inches along that hem you will be fine, ours is stronger as the loop is sewn into the zipper as well as the hem which adds to its strength, also it helps if you don't sit to far back into the hammock when you get in and out. UL gear needs a little more TLC!!!

I used about 6" of 3/4" grossgain doubled I've so there was 3" of it sewn to the hammock hem. As I'm thinking about it now, I would put a few inches of 1/8" shock cord in the system for a bit of insurance.

I'm doing the hammock out of .75 cuben with no sewing, all bonding. The hammock body after finishing the hems should be ~2.6m long, and I was planning to put the pull out at about 1.2m from the end. Based on your feedback I am going to double my planned re-enforcement area for the pull. I don't plan on having an integrated bug net though, so I am worried about the stress around that area. I've thought about glue attaching a section of nanoseeum bug net between the pull out and the body though so it helps hold stuff in.

Totally agree on taking care of your ultralight gear.

We Found that a 1" loop of shock cord removed a lot of stress from that area but still have a good hold for the adjustment. That's a good idea to add in!

The only issue I see with shock cord is it looks like it would have to be fairly heavy duty stuff to maintain the foot bed area when your body load is in.

When we first designed this we had a foot curtain... Basically it's what you are thinking of, a triangle of no see em that has a hem so the cord could pass through it and then a small loop at the point the attached at the hammock where your feet are. It's idea was to protect te bug net from feet and zips etc. it would work great on your no-net version to keep your TQ in!
