    big hanger

Hey i am new to hamock forums.. When camping as a kid we always had a hamock... I recently got back into hiking and am interested in trying hammock camping the problem is that i am a BIG guy.. Over four hundred pounds.. I am losing weight but it takes time and i am not going to weight to hike anymore i just move slower but im getting out there.. Will a two person hammock hold more if you double it ? And will this work for me to be able to try hammock camping... I think this will allow me a more comfortable sleep which will allow me more time in the out doors..

I will defer to the experienced folks on the forum on your question, but wanted to give you an attaboy for getting out there. I'm no little wood sprite myself, so I know where you're coming from! Good luck and welcome to the forum!

There are some options for hammocks for folks over 400 pounds. Brandon at Warbonnet has made a number of hammocks that have been "upgraded" to give a safe and comfortable set up for folks near your weight. Give him an email for the details. There are a number of members that are over 400 here, I am sure they will chime in with suggestions as well.

    Welcome to the forum.

Hey buddy. I have been well over 400 lbs before so I know where you are coming from. I was still decently active and loved to hike. Anyway. I have used my Eno double nest when I was 450 even though the weight limit is 400 it will hold you more than likely, unless you sleep like a dolphin flipping around.

I still am over 300 but have lost 100 lbs. I still use the same hammock, whoopies, and tree straps. Got most of my stuff from Paul at arrowhead equipment.

The moral of the story is dont be afraid, just get out there and do it. Hammocks are the best sleep ever for big guys!

I was typing this about arrowhead and Paul posted... what a coincidence.

He knows what you need before you even order it!

Also....be vigilant on tree selection. Check roots and make sure it is well rooted and alive. That goes for all hangers though.
Carry on and best to ya'.

Good for you! The people here are real helpful and real nice. Pappa smurf may be able to custom craft you something nice for your size as well. There are probably several guys here who can help.

A total Noob here who asks questions rather than answering any at this point in time. I just wanted to commend all the weight loss happening in this page. I was 345lbs two years ago and I'm down to 270 now. Still a work in progress but I'm feeling better and looking forward to getting out on the trail as that will help with the weight loss effort. Just my two cents guy's....

i say keep with it. as long as you are out there you will eventually get to the weight you are comfortable with. i too am doing the same thing started at 275 down to 255. i use a diy gathered end hammock made out of 1.9 ripstop. you could always double or triple layer it to get you to where you feel safe in the hammock. as for suspension i use climbing webbing with a ring system. the weight ratings for all my suspension is in the 1000's of lbs. hope this helps.
