Keep your webbing out of the sun.

My wife was repairing a medical fanny pack that broke at work, I thought that was odd. I picked up the 1-1/4" web strap and tore it in two in many places, then tore it length ways. No I'm not that phone book ripper guy. Anyway I asked her if it was in the sun, she said yes they are two years old and hang in the window when not in use.

I wonder if red is a bad choice for strap color; just like a red car oxidizes quicker than other colors?

    Maybe red is the problem?

Ever notice how the red pigments fade from pictures, leaving an overall blueish cast?

It would be interesting to know if the web was polypropylene, polyester (doubtful) or nylon.

UV will degrade any synthetic fiber over time. From back in my climbing days all webbing and rope manufactures have warning labels about leaving ropes, cord, webbing exposed for extended time. A few days or weeks even at a time are not going to be that big of a problem, but extended daily exposure to direct sun light (like the OP described) will degrade the integrity of any synthetic fiber. This goes across the board, packs, jackets, straps, and of course hammocks should all be stored out of direct sun.
