Can someone weigh their standard 70d polyester hex fly, Hennessy say's 23 ounces, mine in camo weighed 40 ounces so I sold it. It was the exact same size that they show.

Mine weighs 24 oz, including #4 skins and 2 3 inch aluminum biners. Mine is the original brown.

Thanks, it must be the color then, this was one of the closeout camo tarps, it appeared to be the 70d fabric they use.

That's an enormous difference! Are you sure your pet hamster didn't crawl into the bundle when you weighed it? :-)

At first I thought they sent two in the package, I weighed it three times and verified my scale was not the problem. I wonder if that fabric was in fact something different.

Mine is brown and is 30d sil-nylon, at 19 oz with out skins or biners, and is actually a foot longer than the 70d is(or was anyway). Is yours the sil-nylon?

I had a 70D once, but never checked the weight. What kind of weight increase would be expected going from 30d to 70d? 40 oz sounds like a ton!

Just weighed mine, which is a 70d model:

23 1/4 oz including stock guylines.

I couldn't find a cam hex fly on the HH site. Where did you foind it?
The GSA compliant hammock systems are the only ones shown on the site. GSO compliance requires a much thicker, PU coating and fire resistant treatment. The HH site shows the asym (smallest) fly to be 23 oz, so I would expect the much larger hex fly in the same material to be much heavier, so 40 does not seem unreasonable. Denier is a measure of the weight/density of one thread of a material. The yarn may be made up of many threads. total denier refers to the agglomeration. In addition, materials (cloths) may have different numbers of yarns per inch (hundred count sheets vs 200 count). GSA standards are pretty high, and it may well be that that the bare cloth weight is higher (per square inch) than the material used in the coyote brown hex fly. Add together the additional and thicker coatings and you have a significantly heavier product

I got the same camo hex fly from the October sale, and noticed it was heavier. I don't have a scale, so I never weighed it.

It was from the recent sale. Also it did not have the corner pockets, so it was something odd they came up with. I just assumed it was a camo version of the normal hex, otherwise I would not have bought a tarp that weighs more than many backpacks.
