    Sleeping bag uq mod help

So, I created a uq from an old mummy bag for my gathered end hammock using mostly Kate's instructions(Thanks!)
Problem is, I ran shock cord through both sides, in one big loop. When I get in and tighten it, it just pulls the ends up around me(head and foot) and the middle sags down about a foot
Should I just add a couple of tabs equally spaced on both sides, use paracord to draw it up after I'm in and tie off to the ridgeline? not a fan of this idea because I'm basically trussing myself into the hammock. Yes, I'm old and have frequent nature calls in mid night!!!

Thanks to all for thsis forum!

What size shock cord are you using? The UQ may weigh enough to cause a middle sag. I places four tabs at the corners of my UQ and use Triangle Thingy's, bought them from Paul@Arrrowhead Equipment.

All though I have yet to start on my UQ I have been perplexed by he same thought. My thoughts are: (first a qualifier...I plan a full length UQ therefore I wont really need any adjustment along the length of the hammock like you would with a 3/4 UQ...I think) with that said. I was thinking why not make two small slits on either side of the hammock. Reinforce said slits accordingly kind if like a button hole. The sew tow equal tabs with small plastic toggles on the UQ to meet the holes. Then once in the hammock you just fasten the toggles to the hammock and Viola. Now remember I have yet to make my UQ so I'm speaking entirely in the hypothetical here. But it seems ad though it would work.

    Sotaram....

So, when you say Sags in the middle, is it scrunching down toward the middle? (that's what I'm guessing)...

I made an UQ in a similar fashion and found that you either need to tie prussik loops to the uq to keep it taut, or abandon the full-shock cord perimeter suspension and go with tied off loops. It's a weight issue. The full shock cord method works well for really light UQ's...

to make it simple, I would sew 1/2" grosgrain loops to each corner. Then add either a cordlock to the shock cord and feed it through the loop like a toggle, or make a prussik loop out of something like mason's line tied to the loops and prussik'd to the shock cord. This will allow you to pull the UQ tight, while still getting the benefit of side gathers...

Sorry, i wasn't very descriptive here. I'm using 1/8" shock cord(maybe too light), and this is pretty much a full length underquilt made of synthetic, not down. So yeah, kinda heavy. Shug, I'll chewck out yoour video, always entertaining!
Pic's would be good also, as I haven't really seen too many systems yet. Do mostly Scout camping, haven't been to any hangs locally here yet!

    Thanks guys,

So, are you a Lutheran, by chance? (I listen to Garrison Keillor on the radio sometimes). Only rich people used to have lead paint in their houses. Shug is an entertainer. He does not need paint chips.

Onward! I read your posts. A 1/8 inch elastic cord is definitely too wimpy to keep a full length under quilt in position, esp. if it is a synthetic. Beef it up.
