Good to meet you Rain Man

One of the great things I find about this site is the friendships that develop across the miles. There are people on here I have never met but that I count as friends. Rain Man, from all the way over in Nashville TN is one of those. Growing up in this area, he regularly comments on my camping trips and freely offers his advice and experiences. This weekend, we finally managed to get together. He was in the SC upstate to visit family over the holiday and we met at our brand new REI store, then headed over to Appalachian Outfitters, and then had lunch. I long to put some time into the AT but have yet to do so. Rain Man is just a couple of football fields short of 1000 miles. It was great to be able to pick the brain of someone who's been there and done that.
Rain Man, I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to hanging on some trail with you some day.

He is your friend, your companion, your defender... he is your dog. You are his life, his leader, and master. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of that devotion.

    Thumbs up Woooo woooo!!!

Yes, it was a GREAT Thanksgiving visit to Upstate South Carolina. I ate multiple big meals with family, shopped at Mast General Store downtown with my daughter, went to the Clemson v Furman basketball game Friday evening, and celebrated my 36th wedding anniversary with my dear wife Saturday evening. But it was also fun to take time to meet up with Swampfox and to see the brand new REI in Greenville and also the very fine Appalachian Outfitters with him and also grab a bite at the "Fried Green Tomatoes" cafe nearby.

I won't mention what happened to the first photo of the two of us in front of REI!

Now if I can just get Swampfox up to Tennessee some time!

P.S. Swampfox is the young, good lookin' one in the photo, just in case anyone wonders who's who! LOL

P.P.S. I still love my Tigers no matter what those mangy Gamecocks did to them Saturday night.

+100000000 on the friendliness of everyone here. UncleMJM, Old Gringo, and Alan (just to name drop a few) have become good friends of mine. As Mike put it at the Texas Hang, this site brings people together who in "reality" would have never met or befriended otherwise. There is such a wide variety of characters here on HF. This is family
