There are a few places I know of in the west and central NY which are awesome for a group hang (and tenters too).

Plenty of NYS State Forests (http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/34531.html) which allow dispersed camping off trail. Many good marked spots I have found along the Finger Lakes Trail in said Forests.

Has anyone ever been to Sprague Brook park? Here is a link.

It is very scenic and not too far. That's my two cents. Let's see what other locations that hangers in WNY come up with.

Let's take this planning of a WNY hang to the appropriate forum. I'll start it there and hope you will join me.

Didn't know there were that many interested hangers in Western NY. Do a quick Google maps or Acme Mapper search and you'll find there are lots of parks to have a hang (or a stealth overnight hang). Would wait until after hunting season for many of these areas.

Welcome to the forum. There are more and more hangers out in western NY. Great to have you.

Welcome from a Central New Yorker!

I remember that storm too. My kids and I were camping in the Adirondacks that weekend. I seem to remember somewhere between 3 - 4 inches of rain came down.

    Peace,
    David
