2011 Red River Gorge, KY Thanksgiving weekend hang

The last several years, I've had to work on Black Friday and Saturday, so I haven't been able to go to the usual RRG hang on that weekend. This year, I have the weekend off, but I haven't seen anything posted about it yet.

So, would there be any interest? There are many good trails there, and I'd be up for any of them, depending on the wishes/needs of the group. Usually, the better the scenery, the harder the hiking, but I have yet to find a trail that wasn't doable for most people.

I was planning to be there from Friday to Sunday. Craigblue might be going, depending on certain things, but there's a strong possibility he won't. Anyone else interested?

Off Friday - Monday, at least for now. So put me down as a "Probably".

Where we going? Multiple campsites or "base camp"?

Personally, I'd prefer backpacking, multiple sites. There are lots of options for this, as you know. We could hike the Rough trail out and back, Swift Camp Creek out and back, Sheltowee Trace, lots of options for loops or "lollipop" routes. I think that shuttling gets complicated, and I don't mind the return trip (it looks different from the other direction, anyway. It would be nice to keep it simple, find good campsites along the way, and be open to whatever we feel like doing at the time.

I just did the Double Arch to Auxier Ridge loop a couple weeks ago. That would be a great loop if people were more interested in "sittin' and starin'" at all the awesome views, not so great for those wanting mileage.

I'd love to have you along, Gary! It's been a while...

I'll give this serious thought. I'm signed up for another trip right now, but should be able to shift over to this one. It would be good to see the two of you again.

I, too, would prefer to get some hiking in. I'll keep an eye on the thread and let you know when I've made a decision.

    I vote Auxier Ridge
And a side trip to double arch is well worth the effort, Plus many other "Must see" views: Haystack rock, courthouse rock, etc.
I only know one stream in the area, but there is "easy" access to it from about anywhere in the area.

My $0.02 worth, will go where told to.

BTW, it'll be great hikin with you too Scott!

As y'all know, I'll hike anywhere in RRG. Just aint been to Auxier for a while.
But then I'd enjoy a hike up to autograph rock, could make a loop out of that. Have done it in a leisurely 3 days. Start at the swinging bridge?

If I cant get the first Illinois hang going that same weekend, I might come down and hang with you guys. If you southerners dont mind this yankee coming down to your neck of the woods.
