Found it at ikea... It's a spun polypro shell, yes, like you see on ultracheap laundry bags.

Lots of stuff is made from this, and as long as you have a tarp blocking any major breeze, a twin size of this, folded in half would probably make a decent summer-weight quilt.

IMHO, it's much heavier than a poncho liner, but is bigger too... I resisted the urge to buy it, but it'd be fun to play with...

I did make one cool find. In the kids' bedroom section, they have a net-curtain ..

$5 for 2 == 110"x98".. should be big enough for a bugnet. it looks similar to tulle, only much stronger. It won't stop no-see-ums, but it will stop mossies... It's white, but I've had a lot of success with spray dyes, which are also cheap.

I looked through some curtains too, much to my wife's amusement. The tulle-ish one I saw looked a little big in the mesh for bugs. Maybe mosquito.

I did some searching on poncho liners and found a bunch of forum reports with weights in the 22-23oz range, the same as the spec'd weight on the twin comforter.

I wouldn't get too serious about stuff like this-- just a good quick and dirty resource for a summer UQ. It wouldn't make a half bad summer top quilt too. You could buy the full/queen version for $1 more and make both top and bottom quilts for summer.

Found this at Menards for $6.00
and had to try it for my first DIY UQ

    http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/29...showimage.html

I am unsure of the weight , but here are the specs

    size: 84x58inches,
    water resistant
    one size fit all
    3 items in one
    sherpa poucho/blanket/seat cushion

    size: 84x58inches,
    water resistant
    one size fit all
    3 items in one
    sherpa poucho/blanket/seat cushion

    Outer side: 100% polyester
    lining: soft fleece
    packed size: 35x35x10cm

I have a down comforter that I will be taking the down from and stuff the layers to make a Down underquilt (cheap)

I am thinking about about a 2" loft without baffles since I do not sew

I folded the Sherpa in half and it is 55" L x 42" W I think it should work OK
I cut the sherpa's bag off and used the hole to use as a spot to stuff from so I can add more down after I get the ends sewn together
so that I can then add shock cords for cinching and hanging on my ENO double

I will post pictures after I complete it and I will be testing it in some cold weather soon

A very interesting underquilt idea. How would you suspend this quilt? Would you attach ties by sewing or something like that? Has anyone modded a store bought quilt before like this and has a pic of how they did it?

Just like the poncho liner underquilts-- doubled over, with fore and aft suspension on the sides and some means of gathering the ends to eliminate gaps. I would want to add an outer layer of the lightest nylon or use it with an undercover.

    See http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=18539 and http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=11777

Again, you don't want to put a lot of effort in something like this or you will end up spending the same amount of time and effort as a true UQ.

Any insulation will help to keep you warmer, its just weight and bulk. I still don't know the actual weight and loft.
