Do you sleep warmer in a bridge hammock or a bannana hammock

For people who have both a bridge hammock and a bannana hammock (Hennessy, Blackbird, Traveler, DIY, etc.), do you notice a difference with the warmth of your underquilts? Do you sleep warmer in one hammock type than the other using the same underquilt?

Point me in the right direction if this has come up in another thread. I'm guessing it probably has.

There is a thread on this somewhere, but the warmest night I have had so far was the combination of a BMBH with a Mt. Washington quilt. The fit is perfect in my opinion.

I was toasty warm at 7F in my "banana" hammock. No complaints.

I guess it's more simple to get the UQ fit right on a bridge. I've got my UQ's figured out just fine and have not had an issue with fit or warmth ever since.

The drawback to the simplicity of a bridge is the weight. Toss the coin, personal choice, it all works out in the end.

I'm unfamiliar with bridge hammocks. Do the UQ's cover the head/food ends? I've been thinking about getting myself one to have an alternative design and broaden my own experience/knowlede.

They don't. Unless the bridge is too small for you, you normally don't touch either the head or foot.

As far as UQs go its all about fit. I just sold my original KAQ Potomac. If you know anything about that quilt you know its shaped more or less like a diamond. I got it to work with my bridge and slept comfy to 55*.

I suggest finding a hammock that pleases you then finding an UQ to match. Its all about the fit.

Got it. Thanks! I have mostly JRB quilts, so I think they are designed for both gathered ends and bridge. I guess I'm off to buy a bridge now. Sigh, it's a never ending cycle.

I think you can be equally warm in a bridge or gathered end. Not all underquilts will work well with both styles of hammock.

Sorry to the OP, the rest of this is a bit off topic.

While I agree that when you look at a bare bones, smaller dimension GE hammock such as the GT Nano7 or similar with dynaglide whoopies, one will be hard pressed to match the weight.

BUT, bridge designs can be light weight. My DIY#3, double layer 1.1oz/yd bridge with CF spreaders weighs less than a stock, cord suspension, WB Traveller 1.1 DL (18oz vs 19.5). My DIY#4, single layer 1.6oz/yd bridge, if I had used with CF spreaders, would weigh almost the same as a stock WB Traveller 1.1 SL (13oz vs 12.5). Others are working on similar weight reductions.

Not trying to be argumentative, but just wanted to get it out there that choosing a bridge does not mean you have carry a lot of extra weight.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I am in no way knocking the WB Traveller. It is a very comfortable netless GE favored by many here on HF. Just using it for comparison. Brandon makes awesome hammocks and I am very interested to see what he comes up with when he gets the time to put out a bridge.

EDIT2: Cripes! I'm starting to sound evangelistic about bridge hammocks these days. Sorry again for pulling this thread off track.

Thanks BER i didn't catch that above. Now I will have to put my Camo BridgeZilla on the scale tonight and get a weight.

So, wrt to the OP's question: Did I undersand this correctly? That there isn't really a correlation between hammock design and warmth, but rather proper paring of design between hammock and insulation...along with individual perfomance of the chosen insuation in of itself.

    Cheers,
    Mickey

A bridge hammock has a slight advantage, that the walls of the hammock and uq come up higher, creating a tub for the tq to nestle in. JRB's MW4 works great on a bridge, ecspecially on their BMB. JRB also offer their 'Nest' which was designed for the Hennessy gathered end. I think the bridge would be better to insulate for winter, but to each his own.
