I usually leave it (gun varies on my mood and time of year) in my pack and clip a good knife on my ridgeline. However now I am thinking of how I can store it in the hammock.

Perhaps we just hit upon the new line of Dutchware. The Dutch ridgeline holster.

Someone should make a super light titanium pistol for gram weenies.

no need to carry while backpacking

Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.

There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.

    I own guns, but I officially don't have a hiking/hammock gun yet.

I was looking at either a Bond Arms .45lc Derringer at 20oz, Kahr Arms CW45 .45acp at 21oz or a Ruger LCR .357 at 17oz.

My only reason for getting one of those would be if I woke up with a Black Bear clawing at my hammock with me in it, and the bear is unphased at me yelling and screaming like a little girl. I need something small and lightweight for hiking, but with a caliber strong enough to stop a black bear at close range.

I'm also debating if I should just skip the gun idea and go with bear spray.

Storing the gun, I would keep it in the hammock with me. Not much good if its in your pack out of reach. Maybe sew a pocket in your sleepingbag or overquilt?

A fine weapon but that's gotta get heavy after a while. I can neither confirm nor deny the presence or non-presence of a weapon on my person but I do have a Glock 27. I'd really like a Colt Commander. I've been wanting a 1911 for a while.

I carry when traveling the urban woods; not so much in the piney woods. On the rare occasion that I do, I usually bring either a Blackbird or a Switchback. The shelf in the Blackbird makes life easy and the pockets on the Switchback fit my full-size semis just fine.

No carry here. I stick with blades, in part because most of my hiking/hammocking is with Boy Scouts.
