    First trip with hammock

Went up to Mount Sopris, near Carbondale, CO for my first backpacking trip with hammock. Only 1 night, no trail, up in BLM area, I was a little worried about the cold nights.
There was some snow on the ground on the hike up mid 30 - low 40 during thre day was nice, but droped to 20 degrees that night and 4-6 inches of snow.
I was not uncomfortably cold and slept well. I was testing out my new JRB Nest, and 20 degrees is about as cold as I want to take it. I pulled the tarp steep and close due to the wind whipping thru the area during the day, but it slowed down that night thankfully. The only thing I wished to have brought was an alcohol stove, I was depending on a DIY woodgas stove and dry fuel was rare.
My hiking companions slept in the hut they built at the site. Not exactly "Leave No Trace" but not my call. BTW - they froze their butts off
Over all the trip was great, I learned a lot, and I think next time I will have a Winter Hammock without bug net, the HH was a pain to manage with UQ, close tarp and Sleeping bag. I would rather be able to go over the top than around, under and thru bottom. Thats a big pain in the.......
Hope you like the pics, Mount Sopris, and camp area before and after snowfall.

I love winter pictures, thanks! I found a bugnet handy for a few extra degrees of warmth last winter but it is a pain at times. A bugnet certainly helps keep the TQ and other items in the hammock when getting in and out. My TTTG Switchback hammock opens on both sides so its easy to reach down either side.

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Yes I have, but for now I will try my hand at a DIY gathered end hammock, or maybe upgrade to WBBB. My wife likes the HH I may just let her have it
