Hey, all you double layer hammockers!!

Do you ever try anything other than a pad between the two layers to stay warm? Something softer, like a wool blanket or windproof quilt? Just wonderin' because I'm trying to insulate my living room hammock which is a Skeeter Beater turned upside down with the bug net underneath. I tried to lay a folded blanket in there to keep the underside toasty in the evening. It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be!!!!! Round 2: tonight!

Because the nylon is so slippery the quilt will not stay put. As you wiggle around the quilt will end up bunched in the bottom. glue on velcro strips might work to help keep the quilt in place.

Tried pads...they took too much fussing with and reduced overall hammock feel comfort. Tried the wool blanket...it slipped into an useless bunch. Got an UQ...problems solved. I'd take the quilt you spoke of and modify it into an UQ or just break down and buy one. Just sayin'...HYOH...YMMV...etc...

Before I got my uq I was using a piece of blizzard fleece between the layers of my BB for indoor hanging. I cut the fleece as best I could to the shape hammock and kept it in place with some binder clips this worked for the first few weeks till I figured out what uq to get but I don't toss and turn in the hammock I sleep like a rock in the hammock which I could never do in a bed

Thanks folks! I have an awesome down underquilt from AHE for my backpacking hammocks. And I tied a DIY quilt under the living room hammock but I'm still cold (I'm laying pretty close to the floor--the coldest spot in the house!) I'll try hanging a thicker down quilt under the hammock.

I started hanging full time recently, I thought I could get away with wool and fleece blankets at home. I'm not sure what logic got me thinking like this, I should know better by now.
After 3 nights of feeling uncomfortable and cold, the worst 3 night I've ever had in a hammock, I bit the bullet and put on my down underquilt and top quilt.

Sleep has been the best ever since.

i have used an old "sleep over type" synthetic, rectangular bag. i flipped it inside out so that it wouldnt slip around so much. it worked ok but i caught a little flack from my buddy because it was a "Little Mermaid" bag.

Pips, theres no reason you cant use your AHE quilt indoors as well.
It will wont wear any, and it'll have full loft.
If the AHE quilt is too warm for you, loosen the suspension some to allow for a little more ventilation.

You know, you're right! I've been "saving" my Flamethrower for backpacking. Truth is, under my living room hammock is as good as hanging in the closet! Thanks, Turnerminator and Gar! That's what I'm going to do.
