So no one experienced this issue when using a whoopie with undersized trees? What must have I done wrong? The MSH wasn't the problem, because I retightened the whoopie in the middle of the.night, and in the morning, I was lower again!
Would cinch buckles hold better than whoopies ?

Did you milk the bury on the whoopie sling?
Did the strap slide down the small tree?
Are the straps nylon (they stretch a bit)?

The size of tree should be irrelevant to the Whoopie.....
It's not touching the tree
If your whoopie is sliding either the bury isn't long enough or as shug suggests it may not be milked/seated properly
Just get buckles and stop worrying about all these logistics...

I've had whoopies but changed to these, they've never slipped or let me down in anyway. I also think they're superior to cinch buckles.

Could your small diameter tree be bending? It doesn't take much bend for you to be dramatically lower

Whoopie slings will slip a little if you don't "milk" them to get the slack out. That helps a little but I still get some sag. (I think some of it may be the actual hammock.)
I am concerned of the bulk of the long tree straps of the buckles system, but I might try it, yes! I like that you can't forget your tree straps with the buckles, but I think I could detach them from the tree without detaching them from my hammock only half of the time, because I often have to climb to trees to attach/detach my suspensions. That would be impossible with my hammock linked to the suspension.
Awesome video.
I definitely wasn't aware I had to milk a cow when hammocking. That certainly was my issue.
Until now I found that in wintertime, when I have a top cover or sock, the easiest way to set up my gear was to pack my hammock, top quilt and uq inside the sock, in the same compression bag, and then, I just unroll the whole bundle and hang it to the tree straps. The only downfall with this method is I have to adjust the lenght of the whoopie with the hammock loaded, and that makes it a little difficult, especially if you want to tension it tight. I find myself pulling somehow the whole load with my shoulder (the Ridgerunner loaded with uq, top quilt and spindrift in that case) and my left hand pulling too at the base of the whoopie to create a little sag to adjust the whoopie, often with my right hand only, then. That makes it a bit of a pain sometimes. So that night was one of those, where the ground wasn't level, the trees weren't very big, so I couldn't link the suspension too high, so I had to pick up close trees (that required a stronger tension, maybe?), plus I was on the verge of a precipice because I wanted that great view, and the tree trunks were crooked and coming in the way of my suspension if it was too low...
Long story short, I had to haul my hammock very hard with my shoulder and push somehow that whoopie one handed, in a very uncomfortable position to shorten it, so it compressed a lot the constrictor, and since I didn't know I had to milk the bury, it probably got back to where it was before me shortening it, or even longer during the night!
My straps are the black Warbonnet's. I don't know if they are nylon.

I might try the spider buckle from Dutch, because it looks like you can detach it easily from your continuous loop, if needed, but at the same time you could probably keep it linked to it when the hammock is stored in your bishop bag, so you get the best of both worlds with it.
