I used to use 5 metre long straps at each end of the hammock, tied up pretty much like this ....

I switched to whoopies and straps last year, in the colder months I prefer the simplicity of the webbing straps, if I'm not hiking far or I'm in the canoe then I'll grab the straps.

Hello, my name is Jim and I am fickle.

Apparently I am rudderless, because I seem to go which ever way the wind blows. Converted a HH to straps and chinch buckles. Converted a CJH to straps & cinch buckles. Bought a WBBB with straps and cinch buckles. Saw Dutch's Buckles and fell in love. Switched the CJH to whoopies. And I have a spare set of Dutch Buckles awaiting....deployment.

Sad thing is that I will probably never actually settle on one system. I also like taking new routes when driving to a destination.

    Fickle Jim

loved the video showing the elephant trunks, which I received not long ago.

    especially appreciated the close up.

My concern is that I have channel hammocks (Switchback LH and Clark UL) and after I thread the chain link loop through and larkshead it, it comes loose if not "permanently" attached to the straps. I'm scared to "knot" it cos it will be hard to loosen afterward. Any suggestions?

I did get whoopies, but feel that the webbing/cinch buckle with dutch clip is such an easy combo.

what's with the other little hole in the e-trunk that says you shouldn't use it?

Why would you want loosen it. It's such a short piece...if you wanted to replace it and can't untie it, simply cut it off. (not that expensive) Now if you have knot-a-phobia (don't trust your knots)...that's another story.

I'm going to order Elephant Trunks for my Switchback. I really like the fact that you can easily remove the straps when they are wet. I hadn't even considered that until I saw the above video.

Guess I wasn't clear. I don't want to loosen it.

I slide the chain link thru the channel and larkshead it. It holds fine if attached to something but it seems that i won't stay looped unless there is weight in there.

IOW, if the hammock is in a pack the chain link could become loose and unthread itself from the channel.

Since the elephant has an open hook, it won't keep the chain link taut unless it's in full hang mode.

    hope this is clearer. tx

Just so I'm clear, are you guys referring to cinch buckles as the same type of suspension on my Warbonnet BB? Webbing straps and carabiners with two small buckles to adjust the length?

If so, I'm a big fan of them. The straps can be kind of long but overall I have found it very simple to hang, and I'm very new at this!

I bought a set of whoopies to add on my WBBB but have not tried it out yet. I got them second hand for a great price and was curious about them. Probably will stick with the webbing, though.

Love Whoopies (the name says it all), but I use buckles and straps, too. Used to use rings and garda hitch on my original Hennessy, but the rings chewed up the line too much. Thats when I started to fiddle with the Whoopies and UCRs. Got dropped by a UCR, my fault- you have to pay attention with a UCR, but the experience soured me on using them. I obviously need something more Fool Proof. so Whoopies fit the bill. They do have a higher fiddle factor than straps and buckles, but definitely lighter and less bulky. Like I said, I use both depending on mood, weather, alignment of the stars, and whim.

    Whoopies and Tree Straps

I find that using 6 foot tree straps and 6 foot Whoopies seemed pretty natural. with the combo you can span a wide gap and not worry about hurting the trees. Or worry about anyone else worrying about you hurting the trees. The bundle of the two 6 foot tree straps is small and the whoopies amount to nothing.
