    Ever fall from your hammock?

If so I'd like to hear about it. I think it would make me feel better.

I just hooked up a whoopie sling for the first time and tried putting the marlin spike in the strap. I've gotta warn you; it matters how you flip that strap! I sat into my blackbird and whamo was on floor with pieces of broken toggle around me. Nothing hurt but my pride.

    Okay, your turn!

At the cost of my pride... yes. my first hammock was a DIY hennessy. All i had to go by were a few photos online. It was my first project and it was beautiful! had a slit in the bottom with velcro to make it seal up. After hours of crafting I hung it up, crawled up into it, sat down, and it split in half leaving me on the ground with two pieces of silny! I've tried three of those and ended up on the ground every time. I have since decided to approach hammocking with the KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid.

First DIY rings/strap suspension. I learned from 2 1/2 feet up that you need to put a half hitch in the webbing after you adjust it, so that it doesn't slip. Ouch.

Since then, I've learned that same lesson twice more. I think I've got it now.

Don't feel bad....my fall was way more embarrassing. Had my GT set up with an ENO bug net. When I went to climb in, I did not spread the hammock material out enough so when I "sat" into it I fell backwards over it and into the bug net. My left ankle snagged in the hammock so I was upside down hanging by a leg trapped in a net. My dad was with me at the time and yelled over, "Hey, need some help?" Nice

The only excuse I have....we we half way into cocktail hour(s).

Hoped into my ENO at the same moment a strong breeze bunched up the rearward facing side....I went in....and promptly rolled out. I was laughing too hard to feel any pain. It was alot like doing a backflip off a swing unintentionally, and only making it 100 degree or so into rotation...

Oh yeah! A double whammy, too: I had just made some whoopie slings, and swapped out my old suspension for my DIY gathered end. I tied them to my hammock using a modified sheet bend, but got stingy with the amount of hammock material dedicated to the knot (wanted to make my hammock that much longer). I settled in, and two-and-a-half minutes later... WHUMP! The head end slipped through, and I hit the dirt--hard. I knew I got greedy, so I gave the knot a good six inches of hammock material, then settled back in. About a minute into the hang I thought to myself, "Huh, I wonder if I should have retied the foot end as w... WHUMP!

Yup! Should have tied the foot end as well. Just prooves the old saying: those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it .
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

before i found dutchware i got a GT skeeter beater pro and hated the suspension that came with it and thought that i could use paracord for suspension and straps amazingly it actually worked for 2 nights then on the 3rd night i fell once cause the straps part broke at 3am i made me up another set "always cary paracord lol" and set it all back up and and went to get back in it and then the suspension part broke and i fell again by this time it was almost 4am in a full campground on sat. morning i let out a HUGE @^*& (# ! &^#*@( ^%$^& !!!!!!!!!!!!! "just in case you dont read cursing" this was me waking up everyone within a mile of us. i then grabbed up big camp knife "some of you have seen lol" cut the remaining paracord off the hammock and threw everything in the back of the Dango and drove home to take a hot shower and put an ice pack on my tailbone. "oh and in order to make the hammock stay up i was about 3 and a half foot off the ground lol so yea ouch lol" but then i met dutch and dutchware and brandon and BB and been happly ever after lol.
