I've fallen...twice in one hang...didn't feel very nice.
Last week I set up a GTUL and was watching my son run around the yard. My pillow was on the ground and when I rolled over and to reach for it I rolled out of the hammock. My son started laughing so hard that he almost feel down his slide.
When I was first testing out my hammock, I did not secure the tree straps properly and they came loose and I went falling down to the hard hard ground
While in camp I ran out of toggles to set everyones hammocks up and choose from the ground a stick that looked like it would suit my needs of forming the marlin spike hitch knot. A few moments after getting in the hammock it broke and I fell to the laughter of my kids.
My step son on his first backpacking trip tried to get out of the hammock on his knees and fell promptly into the wrap around bug netting.
i have fallen maybe 20 times ...at least! mostly when i am experimenting and usually the knots just give way and i slowly end up on the ground. i always stradle the hammock now when i test and sit slowly down and see if anything gives before i try laying in it.
i have a steel stand in doors which would probably really hurt if i fell hard so i keep an old futon over the stand and under my hammock which i sleep in every night. i have never had a failure with my main hammock i sleep in like a snapped rope.
i have ripped huge holes in the fabric but usually it happens pretty slowly and i can brace my self.
i have done a 'rotisserie' spin with a bridge hammock and that was pretty funny because how do you get out...?..i was trapped like a bug in the mossy net. i never touched the ground either...pretty funny.
I’ve also cratered many times but this one I’ll never forget! My first “Soft Shackle” suspension test failed miserably when the stopper knot rolled over and let go! To be honest I would have been happier just hitting the ground, I got the 4 “handled” adjustment bolts (shown in the photo) of my indoor stand across the mid-spine and winded as a result. My daughter asked if I was ok, unable to catch my breath I didn’t answer right away so she yelled up the stairs…”Mom, Dad got hurt doing stupid stuff again”.
As I laid there mentally analyzing “Black Box” data on the knot failure, several De Beer’s slogans came to mind, “Diamonds are forever”, “Diamonds, take … breath away”, “Diamonds, render … speechless”. The thread said, “Use a Diamond knot”, I should have!
While experimenting on a suspension mod I had a soft shackle / Nacro-biner knot fail. I was dropped on my tail bone onto the center rail of Beyers Vario Style stand. I was bruised and sore for a long time afterwards.

Not in the camping hammock, but went out the wrong way more than a couple of times over the years in the big Pawley's Island type ones I've always had in my yard.

Had been using my WB Traveler for a couple of months on full-time house hanging, but...
Sat down in it without pushing the side out behind me and, oh yeah, flipped Out the Back Jack. My dog was not pleased, since I darn near landed on him. He just gave me a disgusted look than only a dog can give. It was funny though
