    Sleeping with my dog

Hey guys, thanks for all the good insight. I'm learning alot here. Another question is: I'm about 230 lbs, my hammock is rated for 350 lbs, so i figure I take my dog with me hunting and fishing and he always sleeps in the traditional tent with me so why not take my dog(whippet) weighs about 35 lbs and let him sleep in the hammock beside me. Anyone tried this? Maybe wear dog boots to keep his nails from ripping through anything. Sure would miss him if I couldn't bring my dog.

I take my pup Kiba out with me all the time. Here is a vid we did a couple months ago. If you keep those nails trimmed, you have nothing to worry about. Have fun out there dude!

I could never coax my dog into the hammock with me, but she loved sleeping close by. In fact, she would usually sleep right underneath me. I ended up cutting down an old Thermarest and resealing the end to make a compressible, pup sized bed that offered her some insulation.

I found that video on YouTube before I found this forum.... The intro had me laughing so hard! Thanks for making awesome vids, fronkey!

I have a beagle and I believe sometimes she is the devil.... I would never take my dog in my hammock lol but if your dog is cute like fronkey's then you're probably all good

    Thanks alot!

Camping with a dog is so much fun and I hope you get the chance to bring out your pooch. Kiba is by best hiking buddy and we always have a blast on our trips.

Ha great vid fronkey! I alway go hiking/camping with my rotty x. At 34kg I'm not sure how he'd go in a hammock but I'll sure be trying it soon!

Surprised your pup was so cool with those deer there, my boy is always bounding into the woods after kangaroos. I think he'd come off second best if he caught up to one though!

My dog has been going with me and she sleeps under me on a foam pad. Now that it is turning cold I'm wondering what to do to keep her warm. She is an inside dog and does not like getting in the hammock. She is a 50 lb mutt, golden retriever and basset mix (believe it or not). Does anyone have any great light weight, low bulk solutions?

    Thanks dude!

Kangaroos are so tough. When I was in Tazmania, my friends and I went to the wildlife preserve and one of them got jump kicked by one. It's toe nails cut him pretty bad.

It's great you take your pup out there with you. Best partner I think.

Just an idea.. How about a lightweight dog kennel made from ripstop nylon? Have a pyramid or teepee shape that you suspend from your hammock suspension. Put a thermarest inside for pup to lay on. The fabric should hold in some heat and should by quite light.
