Amazing! I believe this post has been alive for a year now. It originaly started with using a pee bottle to stay warm. That made some sense. Although my argument was that as it cooled it would draw out your body heat. This thread seems to be about a reluctance to get up out of a hammock? hmmm. Until I am stuck in the desert with Baer Grylls I think I'll get up and spread the scent around the camp. Keeps critters away.

If peeing around camp would keep Edward Grylls away I would definitely do it

Sleeping in the back of my truck i use the wide mouthed fruit juice jug. When in the hammock i get up and go. Don't want to risk whizzin on myself or having my expensive gear smelling like, ACK.

This is too funny. But for me up here in WI, I do enough cold camping that I know all to well the troubles of waking at 4am with wind chills at 35 below. I have been very lucky for the most part but sometimes when I must get up and go in the middle of the night I try to utilize the bottom entry of my HH as best I can. It is difficult sometimes when I have on 2-3 layers so I try to avoid the situation all together by monitoring my intake and output before bed. Another major factor in winter camping is the length of sleep time. In the summer I usually go to sleep around midnight or so and get up around 7 or 8am. In the winter time it is dark by 4pm and cold so I usually get to sleep around 8 or 9pm and get up later when the sun comes up. This translates to several more hours of holding time in the hammock in cold weather.

It's only a matter of time before someone takes this too far. When you're hiking, don't like having to reach for your water bottle to drink? We got the Camelbak hydration bladder.

Don't like having to stop on the trail to take a whiz? We got the Camelbak catheter. It lets you go, when you're on the go. Warning! Extended use of the Camelbak catheter can cause urinary tract infections.

And for those who just don't want to stop hiking for number two, we got the Depends Hiker Extreme Personal Defecation Diaper by Camelbak. Remember, Leave No Trace! Pack in, pack out!

I'm tempted to make some suspended urination system prototypes this winter. We'll see what happens. They will have to be ultra lite of course and easy to clean and pack.

That would a mod to a HH. They've already got the slit.
