I just get up and find that tree I marked before I went to bed, and reclaim my territory! Not too worried about the cold as when it's cold out my down jacket is my pillow so it can be put on easily and fast!

Some of the best stargazing I have done is when I have had to get up in the night. Just saying...

For what it is worth, I have always just gotten up and done what is natural, in nature, whenever nature called. Having said that , I have never really done any cold weather camping, but even getting out in the low 40's cold and rain has made me consider this option. You are all nice, warm and comfy and then come back wet and chilled to a cold sleeping bag.

Probably really good advice on the different shaped bottles . Kinda reminded of the scene from Dumb and Dumber where they get pulled over by the cop after 'using' the beer bottles in the van.....

Anyhow, let us know how it goes ...

I try to 'go' before I go to bed, almost always can make it until really early (blessed with a 'kind bladder' I guess?) - and if I wake up after 4:00AM, I'm up for the day anyway.

If I do wake up in the middle of the night I just get up.

I don't know how you manage it laying on your back. When people said they took a hot water bottle into their hammock to keep warm, I always thought the bottle was filled with WATER. Silly me.

I agree....sometimes after emptying the bladder I will stay up for a while longer staring at the beauty of mother nature in the sky!
