Gonna test the DIY gear tonight.

It's been a busy couple of days, went from never touching a thread injector to making a gathered end Hammock, Sewn PLUQ with pleats and a PL TQ with footbox, along with stuff sacks for everything. The only purchased item I'll be using is the Hennesy Hex Tarp. I'll see if they can keep me warm, it's supposed to get down to 44 tonight, we'll know for sure in the morning...
Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone for all the excellent information and inspiration on this site, Next project is gonna be a set of Grizz Beaks for the Hex Tarp!

Well, I went out around 8pm when it was 55 and lounged for about 45 minutes, it was nice and comfy once I got the UQ positioned correctly. Came in to watch some TV and headed back out at 11, it was 49 at this time and it didn't feel too bad, I fell asleep and was awakened by our 5 lb "guard dog" barking at who knows what at 1am. I felt chilled at this point (it was 45 degrees), no matter how I fiddled with the UQ my back wouldn't warm up, so back into the house I went...
I guess what I have here is a late spring to early fall set up, considering that I picked up the PLs for $18 each shipped, I'm happy with that. I guess my next project will be to cannibalize my 30 degree down mummy bag for a TQ and find another down bag on ebay to cannibalize for an UQ. Looks like I'll be putting some more mileage on the thread injector...

Have you looked at adding a layer or two of Insultex to the PLUQ/PLTQ. I have read that three layers of insultex has taken some people down into the 30's, YMMV. It may be cheaper and easier to add these removable layers to extend your hammocking adventures.

Yep, I did consider that and in fact DIYgearsupply just got Insultex back in stock, but I think the down bag route will save me some weight and aggravation. I have 4 more PLs on the way I found on ebay, wound up being $43.24 shipped, so under $11 each, not a bad deal and it gives me more stuff to experiment with, so the Insultex route is one I may try as well.

With that many PL's on the way you may have enough to make a great set of sleep/lounge around the fire wear as well. My signifigant other loves the lounge pants we made together for her out of a PL.
