Memory Foam for UQ or padding?

Ive got a piece of memory foam that is 80inches long and and 50inches wide and 2 inches thick. ive layed in in my Hammock to see how it fits and it needs some cutting. However I noticed it did get flat where where the pressure was. So I ask. Would that be a poor choice for a cold weather pad? and Second do to its density would it make for a good material for an under quilt? It does roll up and pack small...? Thanks for any advice.. Also, Ive never hammock camped in the late fall or winter.

It might be ok for a home-hang, but I image that condensation would be an issue out in the bush.

I sleep on a memory foam bed at home. While it is wonderfully comfortable, it is EXTREMELY heavy! Much heavier than a regular mattress.

Of course, if you have sherpas........

I wonder about the heat retention in this case. I honestly don't know the heat stats of memory foam (I know it's super comfy, though!) So as far as insulation I would say you need to test it first before you take it to freezing temps in the middle of the woods with no backup. As far as UQ material, I think there are better options for packability / cost / insulation value out there (all 3 together). But hey, if you wanna do it... do it! I would love to see what it looks like.

Its going to be stiff until you warm it up. When you roll, you'll hit another stiff spot until you warm it up.

At home I use a Big Agnes Sleeping Giant memory foam pad in the hammock. It's too warm in the house for my UQ's. I find it doesn't give much warmth and actually takes a long time to warm up to body temps even in the house. I tired it outside this spring with a 3 season UQ and had to take it out.

IF you think about it memory foam is designed to thin out under pressure so you will get cold spots under pressure. CCF does not collapse thus maintains insulative properties. If you want cold comfort laminate the two but bring a wheel barrow.
