A strong list of topics you have there, probably more than enough for your presentation. If I could jump on the coat tails of NCP, with site selection, you might want to mention a quick blurb that you should first find out if the usage of hammocks are legal in the area in which they are camping. Hate for a scouter to get to a state park in FL only to find out his hammock isn't welcomed in the main campgrounds. I'm sure there are several places that have similar rules.... however, this could reinforce the scout motto.

I would add that if budgets are tight (and they normally are with scout troops) the could build there own rigs i.e. papa smurf's BS Hammock kit and have the boys put them together or if they have parents that like to sew then they could help get it started. I would also encourage them to visit HF for lots of DIY info.
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.

Don't the Boy Scouts have a sewing badge? Making a hammock would be a good project to earn that badge.

I wouldn't go into too much depth. Talking too deep into hammocks people find me preachy. Give them enough to get them interested in the whole hammock movement we got going. Talk about weather protection and keeping warm, the concerns they might have when planning a trip.
I have been working this angle with my brothers and friends. If I start going too deep into the terms we use they get that starry eyed look and start to drift to the sounds of the crazy hammock guy.
For example I showed them what tree straps where and how they helped the trees but left out the Dutch clips and Dutch biners and marlin spike hitches until they got the concept and where actually interested in what I saying.
I tried to get the why question out of the way before the how.

    Hope this helps

Yeah, I kept it pretty simple when I demonstrated our hammocks to the people at the Texas Outdoor Family workshop last year. I showed them hot to get in and out, how to lay, how the straps protected the trees, the tarp, and our underquilt, while explaining you can start with a cheap $20 (or DIY) hammock, a pad, and a cheapo tarp.

A big Thank you to everyone that commented on this post. The presentation was this past weekend and although there were only a few people it was a big hit. I learned everything here, this has to be the best forum around.

    Thanks
