I agree with Syb. Try one out then share your opinion...I would like to hear how well the WL tarp does in a major downpour. I have only tested my OMW in 40+ mph winds with not one stitch or one corner reinforcement pulled out. The best part is they warranty their gear for any manufacturing defects as listed on WL's website. Hope you find the tarp that best fits you...

    You guys miss the point.
This was not an equpiment review thread.
I was not professing my extreme knowledge of all tarps.

I merely said that I did not like the look of that tarp.....

Then, after that, telling me to try several different ones THEN offer my opinion,
Why would I try out a tarp that I don't like the look of.

I am the customer, if I don't like it,
It would be ignorant for me to purchase it to test,

And just as ignorant for you to suggest it......

If you are curious how said tarp works under specific conditions,
    YOU buy it.

I am not asking for a tarp to be given to me for free........
So, I have the rightto get what I want.....

Perhaps, I live in a high wind area, and
Reinforced stake outs is a big deal to me.....

You decide what you want to buy, and I will for myself.

To me that tarp doesn't hold a flame to a
    Warbonnet superfly or backwoods winterdream.....
But, I must be an idiot for not liking the fist thing suggested to me

If you have the means, DIY is good way to go since you can make it the way you want it. There is enough info and DIY'ers around here to help if necessary. May I humbly suggest more than 8 feet for the width since you want to be able to stake it to the ground. If and when you do finish it I'd like to see pics! Have fun!

ok i can see your new here but THIS way of talking to people especially the wonderfull people on here is just RUDE AND IN POOR JUDGEMENT now all of the tarps that has been talked about on here are highly praised and well built and has handled WIND, RAIN, SNOW, SLEET, ..... but if you are worried about having what i call a true tent mode in a tarp then you are going to need something with a width of around 10-11 "this is if you want to stake it to the ground. now as far as i know "i may be mistaken" the only types of tarps you are going to find is a custom made one or a kelty 10x10 or 12x12 these are great tarps and we have many of our fine members using them, but they are bulky and heavyer than a silnylon or cuben now since you have a price range of around 100 cuben is out the window. but their are some fabricators "including myself" that if you ask nice and act right would love to build you the tarp your asking for in silnylon. if you would like to talk to me or anyother of these people who could make you one "i believe popasmurff also makes custom tarps and guys if im leaving anyone out i trully appologise" just PM us and we will get you set up
sorry for my rant but i believe everyone on here deserves respect "including you as long as you show it" I hope to hear from you soon or good luck in other endevours

Well put BigT and I have to agree with what you said. This Forum is not like others and I for one do not want to see us start flaming each other here. Lets play nice.

My whole point was.... that just because I didn't like
One specific tarp, does not mean that I was flaming the maker,
Nor was I saying he had an inferior produt. Just was not for me.

I thought that two people responded rudely just because I didn't like something.
As, I have the total right to not like a design.

Its my perrogative <bobby brown dance> lol

That being said, yes Cuben I way too expensive for me right now,
But I do love that clear woven look!
I have recently found some silnylon at 3 bucks a yard,
So about 10 to 12 yards is going to make a nice tarp!

Turtle, I thank you for you offer to custom make a tarp,
But you must understand that DIY is a drive to show...
Yes I Can, and relying on yourself is that much more satisfying.

Right now, I am unsure if I want to make the tarp with doors on it,
Or make it more traditional, and just use Grizz Beaks to shut the openings.

I like the versatility of beaks, as I could hang them differently
    To accmodate cooking under them.
Alo, am kicking around the idea of a grizz beak that is a wearable poncho!

Also, I am not sure if I want to literally stake it to the ground.
But, I grew up loving Wall tents in the scouts,
And I could see a good fusion of wall tent and tarp.

I just wonder if I will b able to get the tarp as tight
If I leave the edges straight, as opposed to Catenary Cuts?

short answer NO but if your make your tie outs the right distance and use pull outs you can get really close just remember if your making a big tarp " a BIG sail" that you reinforce your tieouts well

I'm pretty sure you could make a 8x10 out of 8 yards and have enough left over for 1 grizz beak. Me thinks a rectangle with a beak and side pulls would be very nice yes.
