Looks great. I find that, most of the time, the hardest part is actually convincing yourself that you can do it. And thanks for the pics and blow by blow. I'm planning a bug net for my son's ENO single.

Did you think about making the bug net so that you could take it off all the way?
I ask because I have a HH as well & I just cut my net off. I was going to make either a full net or do the same mod as your did. However, I would love to be able to have the option to be able to remove it during the winter when it's not needed.
I'm new to DIY so I would have to figure out how to do it, but I don't think it would be that difficult. Famous last words.
^I'll be starting out on that very project as soon as my bug mesh and zippers arrive. I will be using 120" zippers, with velcro'd triangles of nylon at the ends to cover whatever gap (if any) will be left by the zippers. I'm also pretty new to this gear-making business, so I'll be going slowly and hoping for the best. Since I'll be doing it to a couple of Safaris just like the OP, this tutorial has been a real confidence booster and will likely be quite invaluable as I muddle my way through.
Seam ripping the trap door to the basement velcro was the time consuming part for me. Of course I did not have to add netting as this is a snow camping hammock. Glad I bought one of those closeouts, be a nice winter hammock for the money.

I wanted to do the same thing your thinking of, having the net unzip completely. This way, during winter, I could bring a Hennessy style vapor barrier with a breather port and vinyl window to use on super cold days. Just zip it in place where the bug net would go.
The problem I found is that you have to purchase two complete zippers like the ones on a sleeping bag or coat that sepperates (special ends). Longest zippers I could find were 110". I wasn't sure if they would be long enough to fit on the Safari (probably would). I also couldn't find them in the smaller #5 zippers. The ones on eBay are hugh bulky monsters, #8 or 10.
Someone else on the forum may know how to add the special ends on a running coil zipper to remove it from the hammock properly. I finally decided to stick with the easier way to go. let me know what you find out.

str8dog, I'll take that as a compliment. When I compare my mod work to that from folks like 2qZq, it’s not even close. I've got a lot of learning to do. If you’re really interested, try giving the folks at 2qZq a call or email. They can probably do it cheaper than I could (bulk material purchases), waaaay better craftsmanship, and faster turnover time. Or, give it a try yourself. While I won’t claim it’s easy, or fast, at least not for me, it’s fun to try it yourself, and rewarding.
