Geauga Park District in Ohio has some wonderful camping options. They are free if you live in that county and only $20 if you don't. Some of the sites include a gorgeous, cedar made lean-to with a beautiful stone fire place. I would love to do a group hang here. The park we were at was very wooded, very clean, and very nice.
I took my son and mother there this weekend. It was supposed to be a 3 day weekend for us, but it ended up being 2 nights. The first night we got in very late, it was a mix of rain and snow, very cold, and very windy. All the sites had reservations, but because of the weather, we were the only ones at the entire place. I sat us up as best as I could....but we were all cold the entire first night. Sleeping came hard to my mom and son and I didn't get to sleep until 7am that next morning. (I think mostly because of our hair being wet and just getting chilled to the bone). The next day, I did look over things and correct some things such as adjusting the UQ and taking up some slack in the hammock socks....that night we slept warm and hard.
Another lesson learned is to keep your hats and/or ponchos in the front of the truck with you. No matter how nice the weather is where you are, it could be the complete opposite just 3.5 hours away from you. Also if your destination is near a large lake, lake effects are very unpredictable and don't necessarily show accurately on the weather reports.
