Thanks (am I hijacking the thread?)
I have tried talking to / asking my favorite local outdoor shop Bogong Equipment in the city about hammock camping because they also actually sell (a limited range of) Hennessy Hammocks. Didn't seem to know too much. Apparently they sell them to people hunting but not your usual hiker.
Nice to see/hear other locals who are interests and are knowledgeable about hammocks.
Welcome from another in down under.
Hopefully I will get my new hammock in the post this afternoon and make use of this fantastic weather
Welcome from another hanger from down under.
Hi Philthy and Swank-e (love the Aussie tradition of adding a "y" or "y" sound to the end of every name ).
I'm down in Frankston. I've just finished making my third hammock, only 2 more to go and the whole family is set. I haven't seen any one else hammock camping in the bush but maybe we can start the trend - sure beats lying on the hard ground.
Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi Phil, I bought my first HH something or other earlier this year, for use in NZ in Jan next, where min temp is only going to be ~10C. Have only had one night in it outside at home in April (maybe 8C), and it was very very cool underneath. Manageable, but uncomfortable. Spent a lot of time thinking about pads and quilts, and decided that the volume of a suitable pad was not useful for me, so decided on an UQ. Fortunately I am happy to sew, so have just made a new TQ (5cm loft, ~450g), and an UQ (5cm loft, ~ 230g). Haven't used them yet, but they seem pretty cosy, and a lot less volume than a pad.
Welcome from Columbia, SC!
Thanks for the warm welcome!
I'll be making a DIY hammock this week to have a sleep in at home to see how I like it. An upgrade to a WBBB (or DIY clone) will probably be on the cards at some point too...
andrewallan - That looks like some nice work there! I think I'll make my own UQ and TQ as well. Where did you source your materials from? There seem to be a lot less local options for us...
