2nd Annual Central Washington Mid-Winter Hang

Hey everyone,
I am again planting the seeds for a Winter Hang here in Ellensburg, WA. Last year's was such a success, and the response from those who participated, so strong, that I figured we should do it again!

The date will be the first weekend of February (2/5-6/2012). The location will again be the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area.

This location is easy to get to, plenty of parking, and bail out options, not to mention close resupply.

Everyone is welcome. This is a great place to try out winter camping for the first time, try out a new winter set-up, or learn more about winter camping.

Last winter there were folks (like me) who did a 2 nighter, but most did a one nighter. I will again bring a stew to cook at the site and share with everyone.

Sounds like fun. I'll put it on the calendar.

This'll be my first group hang. Anything you recommend I bring other than the standard hammock camp gear?

It's a short hike. There's a water source nearby, bring a way to treat it. There's fire wood there, but last year someone brought extra from home that was welcome. Bring a saw or a hatchet if you want to collect wood there. Other than that, keep an eye on the weather, and bring appropriate gear.

Man that's too far away. But I guess it will be here soon enough.

For those that are planning to come and have been yet. It is a total easy breezy hang. Its like a 7 minute (at most) hike to the spot, totally flat and plenty of trees. Along with that there is out houses in the parking lot, and town is about 15 minutes away.

So load up your pulks , and come hang out with all of us.

I'll be the wood provider again, so don't worry about that.

That's all I can think of to say, thus far.

Hopefully someone will have a fall hang so we don't have to "wait" as long.

If there's snow I may drive up..
I'm planning to do a BP trip up north in the next couple weeks as well.

Are those days correct? 2/5 and 2/6 are a Sunday and Monday??... and The map sent me to Kansas... found the location to be out by Yakima... May have to make the journey

First weekend of February was my intent. 2/4 to 2/5. I will probably be out there on Friday night, just 'cause it's close to home and I like being outside. I'' try reposting a new map in the next couple of days. In the mean time...Here's the scouting trip video from last year.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. I will fill you all in on my AT adventure of last year and what I will be doing different on my 2/29/12 re-start on Springer.
