    Need advice on DIY Tarp

    Hi all,

Been researching a lot lately about tarps. I currently don't have one and am looking into making my own. Chatted with Shug via p.m. and really like his tarp setup. He linked me to this thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/index.php?page=blackcat

I love the design and look, but I'm not sure I get the whole cat cut setup. I know it's to create a tighter pitch but does it really need to be as complicated as it is in that linked thread? Could I simply measure 1 foot over and 1 inch up (Just an example) and then just go with it? Will this lead to annoying setup or will it work fine?

I'm really close to ordering the supplies needed for this tarp, it'll cost me around $65-$75 in supplies. The only part I'm hesitant about is just how complicated that linked thread seems to be. Am I overthinking it? Advice, tips?

    Thanks

    Jason

When I made my tarp, I started with the measurements, marked across as measuring, a long process. Then I got to thinking, now we are in trouble. The cat-cut is just an arc. So for the other side, I measured across the tarp to find the middle, then measured up into the tarp and marked the highest measurement on the "cat-cut chart". I have a long flexible pole, a tent pole would work if you have one long enough, I placed weights on the tarp at the ends and one in the middle where I had marked it, then placed the rod/pole to form the arc, it looked just like the other side, so I drew a line and cut.

If your still not sure, I can draw something up, or simulate what I did and take pics, as I did not do so when making my tarp.

Ok that's what I was looking for. Where is your pivot point for the rod/pole? Is it somewhere on the tarp or a few feet off of the tarp?

I am making a second tarp myself. I think I am just going to go with the rectangle design. I was unsure of as to how far back I put my second set of tie offs in case I want to shut the doors.

I am making a 12' ridgeline. Roadrunner, how back did you make your second tie out for doors?
