Being a drone, I'll stick to the tree straps...mostly because all of my hammocks have the adjustable webbing but hey it a matter of principle now! Seems to me (as has already been stated) anything we can do to limit even possible damage and do no harm to the public perception of our obscession that tree straps are a must. I must be really a drone because I sometimes use a set for suspending tarps too.

Heck I purchased my first hammock, a WBBB, mostly because almost everyone here has one (even the Shug) and...being a drone...I figured that so many of y'all could not be bad wrong. But then what do I really know that has not been tested and confirmed by folk here with much more experience?

Tinny needs to reel it in. It's as if his filter is completely removed. He picks a lot of fights and can come across as very disrespectful of others.
I know; I know, how refreshing to speak ones mind. To not hinder the creative process with restraints. But he seems to be not far off of the Aspergers spectrum sometimes, and he needs to be identified as a mouthpiece for stoves and not really representative of the hammock community just because of his stove-cred.

Tinny, I know you read comments about yourself; please don't screw it up for the rest of us. Straps protect trees, even if by nominal percentages, and we're gonna do whats right by our resources.

Tinny is probably correct about the damage done to trees by the ropes or amsteel *but* just because you are right and can defend your point does not mean overrule the 'slack' and respect hammockers get from using tree straps. It might be touchy feely but straps appear to do less damage to the trees especially to onlookers and possibly your local Ranger Rick.

I believe, recently, Tinny feels he is on to something and I really do appreciate his ultralight pack breakdown. All of us find different things in the woods and in preparing ourselves for the adventure.

Tiny tends to talk out of his "yoo hoo" a lot. Great stove maker yes. Opinionated, out spoken, and looking to argue about something is usually the case I have found with is videos...Sort of a know it all, when he may not know much at all....Just my two cents.

Nothing against Tiny..just my impression of him.

    I am new here.

Have watched over 5 hours of Shug videos.
    2 hours of Tinny videos.

Seems this is a Tinny lynching.

    But....
He started it. (e.g lemmings remark and, ad infinitum, posting on You Tube to whomever may wander....uh..think internets here in general. anyone can post)

    Tinny obviously feels slighted.
    tinny struck out.
    Hammock forum struck out.

Do you all srsly hike together? (think Darwin here).

Plz try to think bigger picture here.

Although, I agree, his stoves are the bomb.
Tinny, and the rest of the forum: place nice and get along.

Tinny...be nice until you have a handle on current flair in stock
    and how it performs

    ...or camp.

    oh
    ps

I built my own house in WA State in Old Growth section of the Deschutes River.
Have seen PLENTY of things done to trees older than I am on my property.

if it makes rangers feel better, then do the strap.( and you know how long it takes to educate people
about common things like women's rights, black voters rights, etc)
Why waste a perfectly good whoopie sling ?

Don’t go after the man. Go after the ball.

I have a Single Line Tarp Ridge Line from Whoopieslings.com
I set it directly on the trees.
It cuts into the bark of the trees.

That makes me wonder if I should use tree huggers on my tarp suspension.
And it makes me convinced that tree huggers is a must on the suspension of the hammock.

Ya know I was thinking about this last night and reading the comments it is really turning into a Tinny bashing and it shouldn't.

He's a noob. Plain and simple when it comes to hammocks. His ideas and blunt remarks are based soley on his limited interactions with what he's got his hands on. Period.

Unfortunately in his haste to have fun with what he's got going he is neglecting to due a full review of what else is out there. Thus leading to some off key statements that most senior hangers find to be annoying to say the least.

If I have bashed Tinny in this or any other thread I am sorry. That's not what this forum is about. It's about shedding light to the uninformed. I plan on doing some myth busters of my own, Water Monkey Audit Style. He's not the only one with a camera and an audience. Don't worry, I'll be "nice".

I personally was surprised in Tinny comments on tree straps. Tree straps do work, I would never consider not using a tree strap.

Tinny, Thanks for your comments on tree straps. It is a good topic for real discussion. I appreciate that and hope you don't get discouraged with the forum. I have never seen this many negative comments on the forum before and I am sorry to see it now. This isn't like us. I for one am sorry you are having to read comments of a personal nature rather than objective criticism on an idea.
Hang in there with us. Mule
