I sleep in a Hancock's Fabrics ripstop, DIY Hammock every night. Knotty style construction. I also own a WBBB 1.9 Dbl for camping in. You can tell it's a little firmer then the DIY single layer, but I fall asleep much to quick to really tell the difference, except when I had the Walmart CCF pad in there which made it a bit harder, but again, I remember thinkin 'thats a bit stiffer to lay on' right before, 'oh, it's time to get up'.

I'm 6'2" and presently 2 and 3/4's though when I started I was 309. I really need to hit that treadmill some more. Web suspension on the Black Bird, Whoopie on my DIY.

    Wow! Thanx for the replies

I really appreciate all the replies. I would definitely like to make a DIY because that is just who I am. I like to know how to do things myself. But in the interim looks like a Hennessy Safari Deluxe for $49.00 could get me in the woods quick and cheap. The disadvantage of no mosquito netting is apparent to me and I imagine it is something I could add later (maybe a bad assumption) once the weather warms up in the Spring. But the rainfly thing eludes me. Can't figure exactly what it is though the name certainly implies that it helps keep ya dry. Could anyone provide some enlightenment? Is it something that is normally integral to the hammock (i.e. sewn on)? Could it be added later?

Thanks again for all the replies and suggestions.

    Rain fly = Tarp

A Walmart blue tarp will keep you dry for around $10, of course it is heavy and bulky compared to many of the tarps designed specifically towards backpackers/campers.

Geez. Whadda Noob! Why don't they just call it a tarp for goodness sake? I mean I know what that is.

Oh man I laughed at myself over that one ...

They call them Rain Flys in the tent market, Dining flys which you used to be able to buy at the discount stores for 10-15 bucks. Just a tarp with poles. Now they just sell those EZ ups. So it's not just a Hennesey thing, it's market driven. Oh, flys may be cut to a certain shape to fit a need, like the rainfly on my tents, but in the end they all are just tarps and you can cover your wood pile with them.

A little dis-respectful to my Superfly to cover wood with it though, if you want my opinion.
