    20 Minute DIY UQ

Well, most of it was already done for me

At the Eddie Bauer warehouse store they had "down throws" for $36 (originally $90).

    650fp down

    52'' x 60"

Unfortunately, the baffles are running the width of the thing, but I didn't want to lose any width or length, so I left it stock.

All I had to do was throw grosgrain around the perimeter and some shockcord and I have myself a new summer UQ.

    19oz finished weight

That's pretty sweet! I have been looking for something like this to make a UQ out of. I'm a pretty warm sleeper so that and a blanket and i would be good. Much better than wrestling with a CCF pad.

    Nice!!

Was this an online purchase or a physical store? I'd love to get my hands on a couple of those.

Fellow HFer ArcsandSparks was using one exactly like that on my last trip to the SHT. He called it his "summer" underquilt too, but he managed to get that thing down to 23F. It's a great idea Tendertoe. I plan on making one as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Physical store. Don't know if they'd be in an "outlet" if you have one of those near you as the place I got this from is the only Eddie Bauer "warehouse" in the U.S.

The place I got them does phone ordering. There were only 2 left on Monday when I got mine though.

If you shook the down to one side of the quilt and made the quilt 46-48" wide, the extra down in the smaller width would give more loft and therefore a lower temperature rating.

But for 20 minutes work and the cost of the down throw, you can't really go wrong leaving it as it.

    Cheers

I had two of these throws and since they are too long for a 3/4 under quilt and too short for a top quilt, I cut off about a foot from one. Made it my under quilt, then sewed the part I cut off to the other one making it a top quilt.

My fist test was about 49 degrees and i woke up with CBS. I believe it was my fault not having the UQ tight enough. After tightening it up the next night i had them down to 55 and was comfy.

This would make a great bargain summer underquilt. Any info on how much down is in the quilt?

    Thanks.
