At last year's Heart of Dixie Hang, we had a wintery mix overnight on my Noah's tarp (not sil nylon). In the morning, I looked out at what looked like drops on the tarp. As I realized the drops had frozen. One good hit on the tarp and they went flying. Sil is sealed, and the water should not bond. Others may add their experience. I now have a sil tarp, but haven't taken it to frozen conditions.

I've been in freezing rain several times under silnylon. It's a non-issue.
There's some buildup, but it doesn't get thick enough to become problematic. You can just tap the inside of the tarp and it breaks up and falls off.
Sil is much tougher than you think.

I was with BS at the HOD Hang last year and can say that both the Sil tarp my signifigant other was using and the Spinn UL I was using had no ill effects from the freezing rain we had that night. Just like him, we woke up tapped the tarp and poof icecicles were gone.

Same experience here as well...and at the same hang wouldn't ya know.....

I had freezing fog/rain after a light snow Fri Nite and Sat nite last week,,and no problems,,could have used a ice scraper on car windows if I wanted,,by 10 am it melted and everything was fine..never had a problem even before this last weekend on both my silnylon tarps.
It just gets Icy. The wind or moving around under the tarp knocks most of it off.
I haven't noticed any wear because of it.

I have been in freezing rain in a silnylon tent. The silnylon was fine in the long run but since my tent was warmer then the ambient temperature outside the freezing rain ended up melting/ freezing on the tent as the temperatures went down and the entire tent was frozen in the morning. A few good wacks with my hand and it mostly just fell off.
Same experience here. I set up in my backyard to test out my gear in the snow (which doesn't happen all that often here in Atlanta) last year. The snow must have changed over to freezing rain and ice during the night. Just a light touch to the inside of the tarp caused the sheets of ice to crack and slide off. It sounded very similar to breaking glass.
If you know there is going to be freezing rain or snow, it's always a good idea to run your ridgeline under your tarp to help it carry the weight. No worries the rain sounds nice from under the tarp weather it's freezing or not.
