    Homemade Tarp?

So I just picked up an ENO Singlenest hammock and I want to make a homemade tarp for it. I found a website that sells coated silnylon and was thinking maybe I could make it out of that. Any advice or ideas as to the best way to go about making a tarp?

I think silnylon is impregnated, not coated. I would check the weight, specs etc.

    No grommets.

Maybe cut a prototype out of tyvek or a strong garbage bag.
    Tarps are personal.
Some like small, some like large, some hang diagonal, some hang A frame, some like to button up for fowl weather, some like cat cut.
    I like 10' x 12'.
Look around this site also Just Jeff has good tarp info.

A number of people over the years have provided info here on the tarps they made. Take a look a the DIY forums and use the search function. You'll find lots of good advice.

Also, do a search for the Blackcat Tarp. Nevermind, did it for you.

This makes a minimalist diamond tarp... it'd be a trick to stay dry under...

Here's a pic of mine (ignore the dusty hand prints!)

i just finished what i call my turtle tarp its 12x11 i chose to make this big of a tarp for 2 reasons the first is im a big guy and need big hammocks which end up being longer the norm is 11ft and after a SRL they end up being about 10ft so this gives me 1ft on each end of overhang. the second is i reciently did a hang where the skies opened up an drenched everyone i was lucky that i borrowed a tarp from an amazing person "dutch" but what we didnt know was what the ending length of my hammock was going to be with my new SRL and after i got it set it ended up being right at 10ft and the great tarp he brought for me to use was a 10x8 i believe and long story short with the tarp BARELY covering the end of the hammock in the downpour both ends of the hammock got wet and since the sides were only 4ft and i need to hang the hammock slightly higher than most due to its girth hung lower than the sides of the tarp "by the way it was a hex tarp" so the blowing/ splashing up rain didnt get the Down UQ wet thank god "since i borrowed it to from my buddy dutch" but my shoes i had under the front of my hammock got soaked and that sucked luckly this happened the last night of the hang and i left for home soon after but you could imagine having wet shoes or anything for that matter. hence the 12x11 rectangular turtle tarp made of green silnylon from diygear. i also close the rectangular to the hex or diamond because i have doors if i ever need them and when i dont its easy to tie them back. "i always rather be ready for anything that way ill never get wet again and the weight savings are truly mininal of a hex vs rectangle and most hex guys get removable doors or have them sewn in or beaks. anyway sorry for the exhausting post just my opinion
