Stay safe in the 'stan!
Thanks Tanker0707.
I hang my sewn PLUQ with a little space under the hammock maybe 3" seems to hold heat in well that way. The PLUQ is snug to the hammock around the perimeter and whem i slid my hand in between the two you can feel the warmth. Stay safe over there Baja, got a nephew in EOD722, praying for all of you guys.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
I used a poncho liner every nite in Nam,,even in the Monsoon season,,slept with the villagers and in the bush for 17 months straight,,and you can sleep in them even wet and in the 40s if you have too,,you will be coldish,,but you will survive...take care guys going to the STAN! Prayers are with you. (former CAG Marine) Semper Fi!
Just picked up two this passed weekend the plan is to make an UQ with one and a TQ/over the ridgeline to trap heat.
Stay safe Baja and well dee you at the spring swing (@ huntington beach state park).
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.
I am still surprised at how well these bad boys work. They are so thin, yet extremely effective. I am telling you, this is the best investment I have made for my hammock, and I didn't even have to drop $150 for an already made uq. Thanks hammock forums!
I hope to make a light weight, compressible uq some day....but for now I have been using the poncho liner uq since I've started out. To help get down in temps, I took a down throw (the ones that go on sale this time of year) and safty pinned it to the PLUQ. The down is between the hammock and PLUQ, not in the folds of the PLUQ. I also made a hammock sock. Hammock socks make a heck of a difference....as a matter of fact I couldn't believe the difference the sock made to the entire sleep system. I also had to change the suspension to my PLUQ by using triangle thingys that I made with braided mason line and knots. I still left the end suspensions on, but the added triangle thingies really help put it where it needs to be.
I'm going on a hang this weekend and will get pictures to share.
Those things rock, I still have a few left from when I was active Army. If you can find one the Thinsulate ones are much warmer and a bit lighter then the "standard" ones.
diva- keep us posted
termite- where might one look for a thisulate model? i have access to navy bases...should i look there or at surplus stores?
