What have I gotten out of group hangs?

Seen first hand a wide variety of gear I could have only read about otherwise.

Visited places I might never otherwise have seen.

Gained weight stuffing myself on the good eats of great outdoor cooks.

I've seen, and learned about Swedish Candles; Fat Wood; recipes for great food; cozy construction; whoopee slings – how to make, how to use; wood burning stove demos; bear scat; how to make char cloth; how to pack a Molly Mac Pack; knife honing; Single line hammock suspension, Dutch oven techniques; new alcohol stoves and the list can go on.

Probably the most valuable thing I've gotten from group hangs are lasting friendships and memorable campfire time with people I would have never otherwise met.

    What about you?

Could not agree more with you on that one. It has been a true honor to meet those that I have and hike with them. Hope to do many more hangs.

I learned that a roof-top carrier makes a FANTASTIC pulk for firewood.

With all the different gear and set ups to see and talk about, it's been the people that have been the most memorable. In fact, when I've gotten home I don't think I've told my family about any of the gear. It's always been about the awesome folks I've met.

Uh huh...friendships to last a lifetime.

I have also learned to make industrial quantities of coffee and Margaritas.

......I learned that hammock folk are pretty easily amused and love to share food, candy and whatever you may need.
Also learned that you never seem to get enough time in the hammock)))))))

1 - No matter what you are making for dinner, someone else's always looks/smellls better. And they are willing to share.

2 - Pyros are easy to pick out of a crowd.

3 - My gear and techniques might be good, but I can always learn from the others. An open mind is a beautiful thing.

4 - Gringo always has coffee ready.

5 - Alan will be in a new hammock with a new underquilt every time.

6 - The people are all different, but all the same. Salt of the earth. Willing to jump in and help at first call. Reminds me a lot of my old Scouting buddies, and that is a GOOD thing.
