    Question WBBB Bug Net Question

I'm in the process of waiting for my WBBB to arrive, but before it gets here I have some concerns that have me debating my purchase.

When the bug net is zipped open, does the bug net still ride up about 1/4 the way up on the non-zip side?

I've used a HH UL zip and I found that the zipper to open the bug net is nice, but it's rather annoying that it feels like I have a half bug net hammock now and not a removable bug net. I'm thinking I only need the bug net a few times a year anyway.

I've been using a Grand Trunk double and am really liking not having any bug net to mess with at all. I can adjust my UQ or reach for anything under me no problems, from either side. With the HH zip I didn't like that the bug net still covered most of the other side (the non-zip side).

So, you tell me, is the WBBB worth $100 more than a grand trunk double for the footbox?

I'm planning on getting a separate bug net for those few trips a year I need it. But it will be nice not having it on and getting in the way.

I'm thinking this hammock needs to be the best thing since sliced bread to compete with the Grand Trunk double that I paid $30 for ($60 regular).

    Thank you in advance.

The bug net on the Blackbird when flipped over to the side is still going to come almost all the way to the ridgeline.

Maybe not all they way, but definitely some of the way. The new WBBBs, however, have a ribbon tie to secure the bugnet out of the way. It isn't as clean as a non-bugnet model for reaching over and adjusting, etc... but it isn't bad. I like the peace of mind of having the net with me, although if I get into serious winter camping, I might consider a Grand Trunk or Traveler. Here is a pic of the new tie back ribbon in action.

I'd say so yes, the shelf is handy and the footbox makes it more comfortable than any other hammock I've tried.

I don't think it's fair to compare the WBBB with a $30 hammock, it's more inline with Hennessys and Clarks IMHO

Have you tried a Grand Trunk Double parachute?

I prefer it hands down to the HH UL Zip, regardless of cost. It's so inexpensive, you should try it.

Thank you, I've seen that several times, but I'm glad I watched it more closely again. Covers all the main points. I'm still skeptical, but since I've waited this long I might as well get my hands on one so I can give a solid review.

Thank you very much. That's the first picture I've seen of that. I've been contemplating my purchase but in the back of my head was thinking, “what if he’s changed something I don’t know about”. I don’t know if this is THE FIX for my bug net concerns, but it gives me some hope at least.

That's what I was afraid of, but a post above shows a tieback has been added....we will see I guess...we will see. I've been enjoying the freedom of no bug net.

We offer a zipper mod on Hennessy's and Switchback's that removes the netting to be stored in a peak bag at the foot end. Nothing in the way!
