I like the way your girlfriend thinks! I do, however, agree with others that it would probably not be the best idea. Plus, it would just kind of be wrong to use a stripper pole for sleeping.

Here is a shoddy video that shows how I solved the hanging problem in a small room. The nice thing about it is because you hook into the chain links, you have an infinite amount of vertical adjustment. So, you can hang a hammock high with lots of sag, or low and tight. I think the distance between chains is 12' and I can hang, in comfort, any hammock I own; from Brazilians to Nanos, they all fit. Total investment was less than $40 I think.

    Trust nobody!

The two poles should absolutely work. The rafters themselves are providing the spreader - like the TL stand. Using the cinderblock analogy from above, it is like you and your friend holding the cinderblock between you with a brace between your heads to keep you from tipping over.

Anchored at top and bottom, the poles won't move at all. Unless they are completely flimsy poles, there is no danger of them buckling in the middle where the the suspension attaches. (ie. don't have a wimpy friend holding the other end of the cinderblock)

Using the strap from the roof to set the attachment point is a very simple and effective method for mediating any slippage on the smooth pole. Unlimited adjustability - I like that.

Now that is what I call a great home entertainment center! Congrats on the great GF as well!

    Thanks for your help folks.

Cannibal - I can't see your video, maybe my settings need adjusted or something

Loving the replies & still laughing at some of them.

Still going with installing the poles - I kinda can't help smiling every time I think about it so I figure that must be the right thing to do. Hammock Bling! I could install some coloured lights & a wee beer fridge - sounds good right?

That's an awesome rig Pretbek! It looks portable enough to use on the move! You could make a makeshift version of that out of sticks in the woods. Good stuff!

What if you made a ridge line that was actually in compression rather than in tension? In other words, hang your hammock, and between the end points install a length of rod that would keep the hammock ends apart? I would have thought a wooden dowel would do the trick - the forces would be very little compared to the strength of wood in compression, at least I would think so.

I don't see the problem, just wrap the strap around a few times, it'll hold... Glad I happen to have a stripper pole in my man cave to test this one out!

WW8Ball - Thanks man, that was really helpful & it's reassuring to know it's been done successfully already. Another point in favour of the stripper poles (Yes!!!) What kind of pole do you use? Did you fix it in place permanently with screws / bolts?
