    Central FL 11 hang

We are going to have an informal hang... just get together, short hike out to the camp site, relax, side hikes/kayaking/fishing/swimming as you see fit, and back out again. It will be primitive camping with no water (other than the creek) or porta-johns. There is no vehicular access but it is only about a 30 minute hike to the site.

We leave the trailhead at 11 a.m. on Friday 11/11/11 (thus the 11 hang name) and won't wait for stragglers. The plan is to get there Friday around noon (since it is a short hike) and then return around noon on Sunday.

The location will be the Arbuckle Tract of the Lake Wales Ridge State forest in central Florida. If you do a Google Earth search for directions to "Rucks Dairy Rd, Frostproof FL" then it will take you right to the trailhead area. More information on my post for a central FL hang from a few days ago and pictures in a photo album on my profile.

Come one, come all, but we won't wait for you

    Details to come later...

Yes, but your yaks would have to be on the ground by 10:30 at the latest so that I (or someone) could give you a ride back from the boat ramp at the north end of the lake where you would drop your car off for the return trip (or I guess you could yak upstream... I've done it there before but it is a lot of work). You also will probably have to portage around several downed trees but if you are game then I am.

Yep, I am going to guess that it would be about 1 hour or less to kayak to the camp site and then on Sunday 2-3 hours to the ramp. It is about a 5 minute drive from where you would leave your vehicle to the trail head/kayak launch. The lake is very scenic and about 99% undeveloped (state forest on one side and Air Force bombing range on the other with a tiny bit of private land on the north and south ends) so you might want to head out first thing Sunday morning and spend the rest of the day exploring the lake.

Sounds like a good little hang up!

Actually, this is probably an excellent hike to "get your feet wet" It's within an hour of the car and there will be plenty of downtime to discuss and experiment with gear, between excursions!

With such a short hike, I'll leave my gram weenie tendancies behind and bring a few "spare parts" and I'm sure others will do the same. These sort hikes just beg for bringing new toys to play with
